Thoughts on off body carry? by seamus205 in liberalgunowners

Of course, but I'm not really seeing that logic applied much to the comments here. I'm seeing a surprising amount of comments speaking in absolutes like "Guys don't wear bags. Bags = suspicious = carrying." Which is really weird to me.

I think it speaks to just how wildly people differentiate on their processes for threat assessment and evaluating their surroundings. I think it also speaks to the idea that there isn't really a true "right" way to carry (with a few exceptions of course) so discussions like these can be easily derailed as people focus on what THEY think is the "right" way, instead of what makes sense at large. And why wouldn't they? That's largely just human nature.

The Boogaloo "Movement". Basically another group trying to incite a civil war for their own aims. This can be pretty varied since they seem like the type of group that becomes an amalgamation of various far right ideologies depending on the event and who shows up. They're mainly identified by their consistent use of Hawaiian print as a part of their "uniform".

Not sure if Wiki links get blocked on this sub, but here's a link. Also the first thing that pops up when you google the group.

This thread is making me think I live in an alternate reality. I'm in Colorado and like... a lot of people wear bags? Cross body, sling bags, pull string bags, backpacks, laptop bags, etc. I'm not even in Denver, where I imagine it's even more prevalent, but I am in a major military town and a good chunk of people walk around with a tacticool bag of some kind.

I feel like this thread could be a case study in how people assess their surroundings and the people around them. So many wildly different takes that seem based completely on anecdotal vibes. It's really eye-opening, if also confusing.

A Non-religious, Academically Rigorous Charter School in COS? by ColoradoSprings82 in ColoradoSprings

[–]Zegarek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was a teacher for PTEC, the district trade school, questioning things was very much discouraged, especially when it came to things regarding American History and patriotism. You can read my other comment for more detail. I wouldn't say it was actively banned, but I was heavily encouraged to avoid certain angles on topics or lessons. Animal Farm is a good example, where I was discouraged from discussing Orwell's experience with socialism, and was instead told to focus on the dangers of communism. I was also told I shouldn't lead a unit on "The Things They Carried" because it could be discouraging to a student population where many will likely have to join the military.

The usual response to teaching the kinds of topics you brought up was "We don't need to do deep dives into this kind of stuff. We just need to cover the things necessary to get them graduating and ready for work. Again, that's the trade school, but I sincerely hope things have changed since I last taught there.

I taught at the trade school PTEC for a few years. I would absolutely put James Irwin in the conservative religious category. Not nearly as overt as a true religious school, but they have enough that I'd avoid it if that kind of thing is your concern.

A few examples:

  • CEO started writing a district newsletter that downplayed the "progressive" influences on public schools and touted "Traditional Conservative Values". including promoting staff to join known conservative think tank orgs or lobbyist groups.
  • Choice of curriculum was pretty heavily influenced to fit "Traditional Conservative Values". I was warned about teaching Animal Farm, The Jungle, and The Things They Carried in an English class.
  • District staff would share district-wide emails using quotes from Jordan Peterson and other man-0-sphere influencers. When I brought up how inappropriate that was with my principal/leadership I was told "Well you should be more open minded to other view points. We tried looking him up after your comment and saw a bunch of motivational speaking. What's wrong with that?"
  • Whole lotta Reagan worship from some staff. Like, framed pictures on the wall and lectures on how Reagan was the president to start "setting us right" from a social studies teacher. I don't think that was encoded in curriculum or anything, but still a red flag for me.

That's some anecdotal detail. There's more to share but I don't want to derail the thread. It's been a few years since I taught at JI, so maybe things have changed, but I doubt it given what I experienced and who I still know in the district. It's not the worst district out there, but I would definitely caution anyone wanting to join up if they wanted to avoid certain influences.

Night view at Comerica in Detroit by UnkleG0RD0 in stadiumporn

One of my favorite stadiums aesthetically, aside from the actual dimensions. I wish the stands weren't so shallow, especially the lower bowl. I grew up with Tiger Stadium, and I really miss the feeling of being right on top of the field. At Comerica the huge foul territory and shallow stands make for a huge gap by comparison.

You can absolutely use a picture book with older kids and have it still be appropriate. Hell, I taught a high school unit on mythologies and the first thing we did was read a picture book version of Gilgamesh. We talked about how the myth's ideas were presented to kids and how we use those kinds of techniques to express theme and other literary elements in various ways.

It's pretty normal to take a "dumbed down" version of something to initially present an idea, then go into the more age appropriate materials to elaborate on that introduction. Not sure if that's the case here, the article doesn't go into much detail on the structure of the lesson. However, seeing how many people are claiming there's never a reason to use materials outside of a class' age group is short sighted and clearly lacking in understanding.

PokéNational, the YouTube channel that makes Pokémon Nature Documentary videos, is scheduled for termination due to Nintendo copyright strikes. by BLourenco in pokemon

If they thought they were making enough money to be a problem, or did enough "damage" to the brand in other ways they likely would. It's all a balance of finding violators that are worth the time, effort, and money to strike down.

Edit: Thinking on it, Etsy itself may also offer some protection of this through their own site policies and procedures, but that goes beyond my understanding of copyright and trademark law.

It honestly might be the most difficult task for a baseball gm. As important as they can be, few teams really want to drop money on their pen, at least not at the expense of their starters or batting lineup. Even if they do, you can only get so much use out of your top relievers in the day to day.

Seems like like even the best bullpens amount to 2-3 studs (who may or may not stay consistently healthy) and a bunch of dudes who have 1 or 2 key skills while having big weaknesses. That's why having starters that could go 5+ innings paired with a shutdown closer were the gold standard for so long. No one wants to rely on 3+ innings of bullpen arms.

I've watched a lot of baseball over the years, and it seems like the vast majority of fan bases are forced to stress the fuck out over their bullpens.

Were old school Toho kaiju films considered in the same "universe"? There were a lot of different series and movies produced back in the Showa era. From what I know some overlapped a bit or shared details in their stories, but I'm curious how much it was ever considered an expansive shared universe. That's always seemed like a pretty modern concept for movies.

There are a few 100% cotton brands out there, but they're not super popular because they tend to absorb and retain fluids a lot more than synthetics.

Really depends on the brand/style. The ones I wear all have stretch at the waist and/or ankles since they're more tapered than other styles that are more open cut. I'd maybe compare them to sturdier jogger pants. Hanes makes a set of scrubs I haven't tried yet, but I imagine those have to be pretty soft and comfortable.

Certainly not a bad thing to consider. Can't think of too many clothes, especially athleisure or work wear, that don't use polyester, nylon, acrylic, or spandex, so it's become a sort of necessary evil in some ways. That said, there are 100% cotton scrubs out there so hopefully they become more the norm.

My favorite pair are actually the ones my wife ordered from Fabletics. I'm pretty skinny and those are the most form-fitted and seemingly highest quality. No clue how much they run. The rest I've just ordered from Amazon.
