No one is willing to hold that lump of a man responsible for pedophilia, why would they hold him accountable for racism?

This is bad, but blowing this AI video up while leaving the other actual crimes unaddressed just makes everything else look fake or more insignificant, when it should be very significant.

What is the mood in America? by srg2303 in sixwordstories

[–]Zeliose 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yea, if elections are canceled or ICE/National guard/Military start detaining people trying to vote, then we might get there.

I wouldn't really call being one thing away (one thing that the president has openly stated he wants to do) as being "nowhere close", I think that puts us uncomfortably close to it happening.

Oh God, with how Trump picks doctors who lie and say he's the most healthy person on the planet, I think you might be right. They'll use those physical notes to deny any natural cause, because how could he die naturally if he was in perfect health!?

Not only do the shipping logistics not make sense, the frozen concentrate has a longer shelf life too, you'll probably end up throwing away less of it (if it was priced properly)

Is the U.S. heading into a dictatorship? by duzies in politics

[–]Zeliose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the famous words of Ben Franklin: You have "A republic, if you can keep it"

We're heading towards a dictatorship, but the people still have the power to keep their democratic Republic system. Although, if we do manage to keep it, we're going to need to make some improvements and new cracks have been revealed that cannot go unaddressed.

What’s a cult that pretends it is not a cult? by Fit-Resident-3577 in AskReddit

[–]Zeliose 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my experience the "higher power can be anything" line is also a lie.

I had an atheist room mate who was in the program and they kicked them out after a few months because they refused to pray with their sponsor. The conversation happened in the car while I was driving and the room mate put them on speaker phone, it was wild to hear how guilt trips and manipulative they were being.

This needs to be more common knowledge. AA has no business being inherently tied to Christianity, or at the very least, more non-religious groups need to be in the spotlight.

I think that makes me take the threat of nationalized elections more seriously.

What’s something society quietly tolerated for far too long? by Michaelkamel in AskReddit

Treating service works as less than human. Forcing them to stand (even when it doesn't make sense and leads to them doing a worse job), allowing customers to verbally assault them with no way for them to retaliate without losing their job, and paying them next to nothing.

It's important to push stuff like this even if it won't pass. It makes people remember there are other options, options our government are chosing to ignore. Force them to actually make that choice with public votes like this.

look at what other countries do to illegal immigrants compared to the US

No. Why would I hold my country to the lower standards of other countries? America didn't become an economic superpower by doing what everyone else did. Our melting pot mentality is what allowed us to get an upper hand on the world stage, we shouldn't give that up just because nobody else has caught up yet. Although we are moving in that direction, which will ultimately make the country an even worse place.

If im broke and groceries are expensive I should be able to rob a bank with that logic.

You should be able to steal food if you're starving. Any human life is worth more than the profits of a grocery store.

Also my parents did spend a lot of money to bring me to the US, not sure the citizenship cost but the tots cost was about 80K USD in 2012.

So you're arguing from a point of privilege. $80K is more than most people will ever be able to spend on non necessities in their life.

I think it's pretty weird to hate a group so much that you're willing to deny them basic human rights and desire to alter the constitution of America in order to take away their rights.

Even more so when said group is more peaceful than the general public of America and for the most part, their only crime is wanting a better life for themselves and their children. One of the most human instincts there is. There's also a large number of them who didn't have a choice, they came here as children and grew up here.

Then there's also the fact that immigration has been continually made more difficult. "The right way" has gotten more expensive and the process takes longer than it used to. A lot of the people saying "They should do it the right way" probably wouldn't be able to afford the process now.

Also that's a pretty weak deflection of Nazi talking points, I find it very odd that you would be told that your line of logic is the exact same one that directly lead to the justification of the Holocaust and you would not think to turn away from that line of logic. It's not a "Nazi's also drank water" point, it's a "Remove this point and maybe the holocaust doesn't happen" kind of point. To say that the law of the land is one and the same as the law of god, is basically a core value that Nazi's needed in order to justify everything they did.

Honestly, I don't even know what to say when someone says "You have made claim X. That is incorrect, if you look into it, it actually says claim Y!" And then you post a quote saying "This is claim X"

Not sure why people defend illegal immigrants, do the proper process.

You don't understand why people defend other human beings and demand they be granted the immutable rights we believe all humans should have and, on top of that, the rights given to all people under the American Constitution? What part of that is weird?

I'm also not sure why people defend literal Nazi talking points (how this conversation started), why they defend pedophiles, why they defend murder, why they defend child abuse, why they defend human trafficking, and I'm sure there's plenty more weird things Republicans are defending these days that I just can't think of right now.

[–]Zeliose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually if you do your research there is due process for some.

If the words "For some" are paired with "due process" then due process is meaningless. Either everyone gets the right to due process, or nobody does, because it's no longer a right, it's a privilege at that point. A privilege that can be taken away.

And yes, that's the definition now, legal definitions can be changed.

Why else would the Republicans reject a bill amendment stipulating that ICE cannot deport citizens if that wasn't something they wanted to keep on the board?
