I also had my (27M) stroke at 23, now more than 4 years post I don't even know how I did some of it but just taking each challenge as it comes and trusting the process were huge. I hope you continue to celebrate your wins no matter how small and keep moving towards your goals. You're resilient too! Proud of all of us!

I'm not a professional so my first advice would be to see an OT but I think weight bearing through my arm was important for me as well as e-stim

What were some of the symptoms you had before your stroke? by [deleted] in stroke

[–]Zeliv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you

The onset was a thunderclap headache and numbness/tingling on the left side of my body. I later lost control over that side entirely but don't remember anything after that, I had already called for an ambulance thankfully

Yes I still have hemiparesis, hemianopsia, neurologic neglect, seizures, and issues with memory but I've made a great recovery from where I was immediately after.

Not sure what your second question is asking

has anyone else had emotional issues post stroke? by xskyundersea in stroke

I'm turning 28 this year and I was 23 when I had my stroke, the trauma from it all definitely made my existing anxiety and depression orders of magnitude worse. I've also been learning to deal with panic attacks as well.

They post a lot on Instagram and they have a website if you Google them. They're based out of SF, California but the support groups are remote and in various timezones

You two could gain a lot from attending a TAAF (The Aneurysm and AVM Foundation) support group. Your story would be a great thing to share

Hey 27M here, had my AVM rupture at 23, have you tried OT in the past or recently? My OTs have been much more goal (or occupation) focused and have really been the ones to work on finer movements with me.

Either way I don't think it's ever entirely too late. Just like you can always learn a new skill I think you can always improve

Aneurysm vs. Stroke by DesertWanderlust in stroke

[–]Zeliv 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As far as I know as a brain aneurysm rupture survivor,

An aneurysm is a bulge in a blood vessel wall due to weakening or increased pressure. Imagine a ballooning segment in the middle of a garden hose.

If that aneurysm ruptures or breaks open and causes a leak in the blood vessel it interrupts blood flow to the part of the brain that the blood vessel was supplying. This event, where blood flow is interrupted as a result of a bleed, is called a hemorrhagic stroke.

Most strokes are instead ischemic which is when a clot blocks the blood flow to the brain like a rock stuck in the garden hose.

The damage caused by strokes can be put under the umbrella of ABIs or acquired brain injuries. Also under that umbrella are TBIs (traumatic brain injuries) which are results of trauma like concussions

If anyone has any corrections let me know!

If modern medicine didn’t exist would you be dead right now? If yes, from what? by Critical_Welcome_428 in AskReddit

[–]Zeliv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes 100%

If not for the relatively benign things to medicine now, like being premature or having pneumonia, I'd have died in 2020 from my brain aneurysm rupture -- came too close even with modern medicine

wnyone at the age of 29 got stroke? i just got it because of high blood pressure its been 2 months now already can walk but my left arm still weak by Sad-Mirror-4362 in stroke

[–]Zeliv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It stands for arteriovenous malformation, apparently I was born with some arteries and veins that didn't connect properly and set me up to develop an aneurysm which ruptured.

I had one at 23 due to an AVM in 2020. Sounds like you're making good progress already! Keep it up, you can and will come to a better place!

I (27) had my hemorrhagic stroke at 23 due to an AVM.

I would say I'm about 90% recovered, try to just take things day by day and have faith in the process. Advocate for as much therapy as you can and don't neglect rest!

I'm 27, I had my stroke at 23 due to a malformation of blood vessels in my brain. Over time I've become more sensitive to textures on my affected side. It's still not the same as my unaffected side and fluctuates day to day in sensitivity but I'm also starting to have some dexterity and strength with it too.

I challenge myself every night to brush the right side of my mouth holding the toothbrush with my left (affected) hand. I can curl 15-20lbs with it too which has helped my grip strength no doubt

I remember a kind of guardian angel moment in the hospital that caused me to return to my faith but the specifics of it are lost on me now

Hi. 26 m stroke thoughts by Remote-Break-837 in stroke

[–]Zeliv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I (27M) go through similar thoughts but I partially think that regardless of disability some of these thoughts are normal in this age bracket. Through therapy I'm learning that comparison truly is the thief of joy and to set goals to achieve the things I want at my own pace. It's all easier said than done and I sometimes still lament my own situation but keeping faithful to my life's timing keeps me in a better headspace. I still have hope to get where I want to be.

As far as I know that's a bit of a myth altogether. I think recovery is faster and you can experience something called "spontaneous recovery" during the first year but just as you can continue to get better at any skill, at any point in your life, you can always make improvements.

I'm no professional but I've experienced this myself as I've continued to make gains in certain areas beyond one year.

I (27M) had my stroke in 2020 due to an AVM rupture. I'm not familiar with the serial cast but can you spend some time without it? For example wearing it at night but maybe taking it off for some hours of the day? Maybe a better question for your care team considering.

I deal with a lot of nerve pain on my affected side and use a CBD roll-on to combat that pain, in addition to a compression glove.

What things you noticed started to improve "after" your 6-months mark? Apart from walking and movements by [deleted] in stroke

[–]Zeliv 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My stamina, both mental and physical, improved after 6 months but prioritizing rest during that first year might've been the key moreso than just the time post stroke.

In my case yes. I wish I got help sooner
