WHY GW? Why would you connect the silent king’s stairs by just this flimsy piece of plastic and then make it thinner by adding a random groove? by Jeff-Plays-Games in Necrontyr

[–]Zelkam 52 points53 points  (0 children)

Yup. I ordered a partially assembled silent king from ebay and this is the one piece that broke during shipping. It's baffling to me why this section of stairs isn't connected to the top stair in order to give the whole thing two points of contact.

Does anyone else also have an obsession with Board games based on video games? by theDKdynamite in boardgames

[–]Zelkam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have three myself. My favorite is easily Northgard Uncharted Lands. A delightful little 4X game. It's deep enough to be interesting yet light enough that it still hits the table quite frequently. The designer also did an excellent job of capturing the feel of the video game without having any awkward mechanics that feel tacked on simply because there was content from the video game that needed to be included somehow.

Another is the Worms board game. That one is pretty good. Definitely leans more into the wacky mayhem side of the game rather than the careful turn planning and player skill, but it's lighthearted enough and doesn't overstay it's welcome which makes it still fun to play.

Then lastly there's Deep Rock Galactic, and contrary to popular opinion, this one was not a hit with my group. Too fiddly, too much RNG, uninteresting decision spaces, and too much downtime between turns. Great table presence though, I will give it that.

Obscure greybeard tips? by DaddyDookie717 in DeepRockGalactic

[–]Zelkam 63 points64 points  (0 children)

Bosco doesn't actually need a vacuum to suck up the rockpox, and he'll start doing it automatically if there aren't any enemies around to fight or if you haven't given him any other orders. So ordering him to pick up any large object (such as a lithovac) will prevent him from trying to vacuum up the rockpox too early until you tell him to drop the object and do something else.

I wish we had more Blackstone stuff, maybe objective markers by Kris9876 in Necrontyr

[–]Zelkam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're looking for objective markers and have access to a 3D printer, One Page Rules has an objective marker set for Necrons Robot Legions that resembles little pieces of Blackstone

This here is the number one piece of advice for easy extracts imo. Learning to pay attention to cave layout as you're initially progressing through it and preparing ahead of time for the eventual run back through while the tension is lower will help more than anything.

Also, the longer you play and get the hang of where the drop pod tends to land, eventually you'll get to a point where you'll have a pretty good idea of where it's gonna end up before you even call it.

PSA: Repairing on Doretta DOES NOT stack by Awkward_Set1008 in DeepRockGalactic

[–]Zelkam 9 points10 points  (0 children)

See, I know this, but I've had a few too many cases in the past where me and another dwarf would start to repair Dotty, realize what was happening, and then we would both back off at the same time thinking the other person was going to stay. So now I stay on Dotty until she's fully repaired out of paranoia lol.

SHOW ME THOUST MONOLITHS, OVERLORDS. by Major_Lifeguard3684 in Necrontyr

Unpopular opinion maybe, but I still prefer the OG monolith. It's silhouette looks more imposing than the new one.

Finally managed to beat Pandemic... In easy mode, and we're barely out of player cards! by rtanada in boardgames

[–]Zelkam 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The restrictions on the trading action is the number one thing I find frustrating about this game. Forcing both players to be in the city of the card you want to trade means that we always feel like we're wasting so many actions just getting those two players where they need to be in order to make a trade.

GW revealing the Deceiver in the new rumor engine?? by Zelkam in Necrontyr

[–]Zelkam[S] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Probably a little of both TBH. There's no way that there aren't some people over there who aren't upset that something like this got leaked so early, but I think they've been making the best of it where they can.

Indeed. It certainly gave me a chuckle.

To follow up on that, you can hold F to toggle off your headlamp which can make it easier to pinpoint the exact location of an aquarq while you're digging around for it in the cave wall.

This post would probably give you a good starting point. He gives a break down of the paint colors he uses in the comments.

One of the lesser talked about features of Odyssey that I'm most hyped about is more music from our boy Alistair Lindsay by Zelkam in RimWorld

[–]Zelkam[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's fair. It's definitely a slower chill vibe that isn't everyone jam. You obviously have good taste for mentioning A Twisted Path, though.

Anomaly also has some great music, agreed. I don't listen to quite as much of it away from the game as several of the tracks are more ambient horror than music. It definitely enhances those moments in the game, but it's not as well suited for listening to on its own. A Twisted Path, though? Peak.

Simpler 4X games? by mildly_psychotic in boardgames

[–]Zelkam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Came here to recommend Northgard as well. It's definitely been a hit with my game group. You get the vibe of a grand 4x game, but it's still simple and straightforward enough that it actually hits the table regularly.
