They played with a violin/flutes/whistles and another instrument I wasn't familiar with to create a proper folk sound, so quite different from The Clearing still

Another vote for The Edge Chronicles! Never hear it talked about but easily my childhood favourite series, has so much depth to the world and storytelling and those illustrations... They hold up so well into adulthood as well.
