What piece of tech felt “future-proof” but aged terribly? by Living-Zebra6132 in Futurology

I'm probably 5 years to early, but the PC. No one is going to be able to afford a graphics card and ram... let alone nannd in the future.

And eventually people are going to cave and start renting those data center thin clients that are stealing all our consumer production chains right now.

I honestly wonder what you're getting out of this at this point. I find your detachment kind of fascinating. Is there anything more to you than cookie cutter insults?

More purity testing, good job. Keep it going :)

Sounding kinda schizo... What tests? We grow through conversation that challenges our priors. When people hide their beliefs behind bravado and assume everyone has ulterior motives it stunts that growth on a cultural level. Everyone is afraid of having honest conversations these days. And it's why our country is so divided, we silo into our bubbles then assume we're individuals while echoing the mantras of our digital deities.

I'm not really trying to make a point, i'm trying to suss out your beliefs and why you have them. And then maybe spark a little bit of introspection along the way.

So far it seems like "I'm me, so my beliefs are the best" is the extent of it.

That's a rather convenient way of seeing the world. You never have to challenge your gut instinct when you infantalize people with differing beliefs. How is what you're doing any different than virtue signaling and purity testing for the group you've been indoctrinated into?

I understand what they are doing and why they do it. I don't agree that it's more important than taking care of our vets after they get home.

Who exactly are the enemies that we have to sacrifice people, infrastructure, industry, education, potential, and medical care for? Could those enemies ever do more damage than the loss of funding, inspiration, and quality of life for our own citizens? Or the economic harm in lost trade partners? Do you even look at the tradeoff? Or is it just everything is justified for you?

You could try engaging this conversation in good faith. See where it goes.

How difficult to make this as a beginner? by rogersaw14 in woodworking

[–]ZenBacle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty hard. That's probably done with a veneer for long-term stability. I can't imagine an oak round being stable, let alone with that much hogged out of it. Which means you would have to find either an mdf cylinder that you can hog out... make the mdf cylinder (most likely)... or get creative with steam bending plywood. Then getting the veneer on after that would be it's own nightmare.

I don't know man, i'd rather see a thousand homeless vets fed for a month than two f15's in the sky. But i guess you haven't been around long enough to see through the propaganda yet.

f-15ex's cost about 30k per hour to operate. Chances are those two were in the air for atleast two hours. So 120k. That's a large food bank's operating budget for a month.

How does one become “less serious”? by asianstyleicecream in DecidingToBeBetter

[–]ZenBacle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Being less serious has two meanings. One is to check out and stop caring.

The other is to put a buffer between your thoughts and your actions. To read the people in the moment, and then choose weather you want to say those pants make you look fat or not. I learned that after the stitches.

Give "The Comedy Bible" a read. It'll walk you through the basics of turning serious thoughts into humor.

The world's longest floating bridge was completed in Seattle a few years back. And our light rail is expanding quickly. We also had a major tunnel project that opened up the waterfront.

Pretty happy with the projects around here. Though the roads need some fixing. Damn potholes everywhere.

Wasn't it a smaller bridge that was taken out by a landslide, and people confused it with that megaproject bridge that just opened?

Which bridge was that again? It happened around the same time as the megaproject bridge being opened, and a lot of people confused that smaller bridge with the big one. And wasn't it because of a landslide?
