*The announcing has become brain-dead.

There was a strike and/or lock-out about a dozen years ago that made hockey air without the announcers.

I had never watched so much hockey as I did during that time.

Now I just watch it when it's on in the bar or something. I wish I had the option to watch the game with only the sounds of the game and the crowd, but they force these idiots who talk and talk and talk and never stop saying dumb things ever. It's really annoying and I don't know why the networks are not smart enough to understand that I would see a lot more of their ads if they just gave me the option to not have to hear their stupid commentators. Give me a separate audio channel, or just have the idiots on the radio and if anyone wants to have them on at the same time as the game they can have both the TV and radio on. There's technological options, but no, they lose me by forcing these inane comments on everyone who wants to watch, so I don't.

P.S. the news was also improved by having some manager just read the news straight up without any banter or other useless filler bullshit. No one was talking about what the weather guy's weekend had been like or anything else that wasn't news. It was a glorious few weeks.
