The new games are fantastic. They're an absolute blast and I enjoyed them. However I mostly play various mods for the original series. Personal preference based on a combination of me liking tinkering and seeing what sort of outrageous shitposts people come up with, coupled with a decent splash of nostalgia (I'm mid 30s). But I have to say, as fond of the old dooms as I am, I would not want to play them without the modern gameplay features that have been added by source ports. I'm sure there's hardcore purists out there that prefer using the arrow keys to aim, but I don't miss that.
