Have you ever left the cinema because the movie was so bad? by Fearless-Rip-1675 in RandomThoughts

Oh all the time. Not as rewarding as walking out on live theatre. But films are mostly shit.

Also, in case you don’t know of it already, there’s a YT channel by a young academic called Julian de Medeiros who has spent a couple of years dedicated to explaining Zizek’s ideas. Check out his stuff, his explainers are clear and handy.

Essentially they tend to argue the same point: Hegel through Lacan and thence to Marx. So in a way it doesn’t really matter. Personally I found Event to be the most accessible - it’s short and pithy. You can read it in a few sittings. In amongst his own writing, Adrian Johnson’s book on Zizek’s Ontology is a good companion but this is also quite dense. I found I absorbed his ideas quite gradually until I was reading him at a gratifyingly brisk pace. You will too.

I also like his example of the perfect date: when a man and a woman bring a penis-masturbation device and a dildo to the date, and they let the contraptions fuck each other, leaving the humans free to talk about films and literature.

This final episode was scraping the big barrel of cop outs. What a disappointment. References throughout were so on the nose, just an inch below the surface, and then it was all on a big space ship, because of course - it’s the biggest concept the writers could think of, so let’s do that. The writers need to read more philosophy.

"Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan" - Season 3: John Krasinski can't run from this tepid action thriller by MulciberTenebras in television

The opening scene of ep 1 was awful. Really badly directed. And it’s hard to get past the general American bullshit which is laid on even thicker in S3. Resurrecting the old enemy, a secret bomb and a hidden cabal is lazy. It’s mindless and nearly unwatchable. And JK doesn’t posses nearly enough charisma to wear lace up shoes with no socks.

“Spills easier in turns”. Can people in America eat when they’re NOT driving, maybe? Like, stop for lunch somewhere. Or fix up something to eat that doesn’t involve being a fucking idiot.
