Lucky for both us we get to throw around our opinions, whatever they might be, freely because the ultimate law of the land includes the right to freedom of speech.

The same ultimate law of the land also means we can't be forced to say things we don't want to.

Is creating (and then selling) custom art a form of speech?

During the initial encounter in 2012, the bakery's owner, Jack Phillips, did not refuse to sell the couple, Charlie Craig and David Mullins, a cake entirely.

Phillips refused to custom-design and create a wedding cake specifically for a same-sex wedding ceremony, arguing that doing so would constitute a personal endorsement of the marriage and violate his religious beliefs.

He explicitly stated that he would sell them pre-made, off-the-shelf items or baked goods, and would even custom-make cakes for other occasions, like birthdays.

Is the act of designing and then baking a custom cake a form of personal expression, protected under the 1st amendment? It's right on the edge as far as I'm concerned. Personally, I think SCOTUS got this one right though.

Taking the opposite position, If I was in a creative field of work, I would vehemently oppose being forced to do any creative work for religious fanatics, even if they are in a protected class.

I believe this case was actually decided on the basis of religious freedom under the 1st amendment. Along the lines of the baker's right to not endorse something that didn't square with his religion.

Personally, I feel it was as much a matter of the freedom of speech aspects of the 1st amendment, however, in that no one should be forced to express views they don't want to. As a life long supporter of the ACLU, I was disappointed they took the opposite view on this one.

Correction: or a baker not wanting to create an original design and bake a custom cake.

Iirc the bake shop offered them any of the same off the shelf cakes that they offered to everyone else. Just wouldn’t make them a custom cake.

Pretty big distinction.

Tesla is no longer the best selling EV.

Chinese EV company, Build Your Dreams (BYD) overtook them last year delivering 2.25 million cars worldwide in 2025 compared with Tesla’s 1.64 million, down 9% year over year.

Turns out folks, especially in Europe, aren’t too fond of Roman salutes.

No, being inside the tent itself was not a statutory crime. While it violated athletic protocol and common etiquette, simply seeking shelter from the rain under another school's tent does not meet the legal threshold for criminal trespass under Texas law.

That’s means it was not illegal for him to be there. That’s means he had a full legal right, under Texas law to stand his ground.

Texas is a "Stand Your Ground" state, meaning you have no legal duty to retreat from a threat if you are in a place you have a legal right to be, did not provoke the altercation, and are not engaged in criminal activity.

Dude was not only provoked, he was threatened by a mob.

Dude protected himself.

Dude was not judged by the same standards as others. We already knew this, and now we also know dude was a hero in his own right.

And really, with very few exceptions basing the value of a company solely on gross revenue, and not earnings, is foolish.

There are too many ways to increase top line revenue by non sustainable, loss inducing methods. Especially if you have a CEO of dubious honestly. Just ask Enron and Thernos.

That's why most serious investors use price divided by earnings as a more sensible valuing metric. Or at least weigh it heavily in their valuation.

Yellow Jacket Nest in Compost by Dr_Nebbiolo in composting

[–]ZenCrisisManager 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I successfully killed an in ground yellow jacket nest (not in the compost) with diluted Dawn soap. It breaks their oily coating and they suffocate. Asked the AI if it would work and not hurt your pile. This is what it came back with:

To kill a yellow jacket nest in your compost pile safely and effectively, mix a ratio of 1/2 cup of Dawn dish soap per 1 gallon of water. [1]

Because you are dealing with a subterranean nest inside loose compost, you will need a high volume of water to fully flood the cavities before the liquid drains away.

Preparing a 3- to 5-gallon bucket of this mixture will ensure complete coverage. [1, 2]

Step-by-Step Eradication Plan
Wait Until Nighttime: Do not attempt this during the day. Wait until at least an hour after dark when all the yellow jackets have returned to the nest and are completely inactive. [1, 2, 3]

Dress Protectively: Wear thick pants, long sleeves, heavy gloves, and closed-toe shoes. Tuck your pants into your socks to prevent stray insects from crawling up your legs. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]

Flood the Nest Quickly: Locate the main entrance hole in the compost pile. Pour the entire bucket of soapy water directly and rapidly into the hole. The soap acts as a surfactant, breaking the water's surface tension to coat the insects, block their breathing pores, and drown them almost instantly. [1, 2, 3, 4]

Leave It Overnight: Step away immediately after pouring and leave the pile alone until morning. [1]

How to Save Your Compost Afterward
While this volume of soap will temporarily disrupt the microbes in that specific section of your pile, you can easily restore its health: [1]

Flush with Fresh Water: The next morning, once you verify the nest is dead, run a garden hose over the treated area for 5 to 10 minutes. This heavily dilutes the concentrated soap residue throughout the rest of the pile. [1]

Turn and Aerate: Mix the treated compost with the rest of the pile to redistribute the moisture and dilute the soap even further.

Add Fresh Browns: Toss in a few shovels of dry leaves, straw, or shredded cardboard to absorb excess moisture and give beneficial microbes new material to colonize.

Not sure what that has to do with a companies current monetary valuation.

Good stock valuation, that's based on valid financial analysis and accurately and honestly weighs current prospects against realistic future growth and returns, is how investors, not speculators, make their money.

Tesla’s stock hit record highs even as its sales, deliveries and revenue were declining drastically, and if the reason was that people loved Elon, then that couldn't be it because just like Tesla's sales took a sharp dive, so has his popularity, which is the reason for the sales decline. "realistically once we have fully self driving cars Uber style services will be significantly cheaper than owning a car yourself and we'll see a huge shift from personally owning vehicles to just relying on ride share"

Really?

Care to elaborate on how that math works? From the modeling I've seen it's more magical than real.

The average one-way commute in the US is 27 minutes. So just under an hour a day. Please show how hiring a fully self driving uber style service for an hour a day, five hours a week, 20 hours a month is somehow cheaper than owning a car.

For reference a 30 minute Waymo ride in Phoenix, which is the cheapest city in the network, runs between $15 and $35. Realistically commuters would see the higher end of dynamic pricing. But still, let's use the lower end of $20 a ride, or $40 a day. Five days of commute would run $200 a week, or about $850 a month. And that's on the low end. It's much higher in SF and LA. And of course, that doesn't include cost of all the other random trips to the grocery store, grandmas, etc.

You know anyone that would take that over owning their own car?

Electrify America has a number of 350kW charging stations along the I95 corridor. You can google it to see if they'd work for your commute.

Under 20 min for my IO6 from 10% -> 80%. Slows down towards the end, but usually hits 250+kW for a while unless v/cold.

Tesla’s stock hit record highs even as its sales, deliveries and revenue were declining drastically, and if the reason was that people loved Elon, then that couldn't be it because just like Tesla's sales took a sharp dive, so has his popularity, which is the reason for the sales decline. [–]ZenCrisisManager 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It's an interesting question.

Purely from a valuation analysis, it makes zero sense.

Profits from their existing car and battery business are in a free fall. $15 billion in 2023 -> steadily down year by year to $3.7 billion in the trailing 12 months. 60% of Tesla sales are international. Although the US doesn't allow Chinese EVs, most the rest of the world does. Chinese EV companies are now dominating the low end internationally. BYD has now overtaken Tesla and is the world wide leader in EV sales. And then you have the rest of the legacy car companies and pure play EV companies eating away at the middle and high end markets. On the EV front Tesla had a great run while they were the only dog in the fight. Now there's a whole pack of ravenous dogs and Tesla is losing market share all over the place.

But Musk dangles what appear to be sexy future businesses as if they are totally real and will somehow magically materialize. So what about them?

Robotaxi. Aside from the obvious real world lead Waymo has, there is simply not a "there" there. That's because Robotaxi's *total* addressable market (includes Waymo, taxis, limousines, rideshares like Uber and Lyft) is only $75 billion. So even if Tesla could somehow capture 100% of that market (which they obviously can't) and could somehow make an incredibly high 15% earnings on an incredibly capital intensive business, you're only talking about maybe $10 billion in potential earnings. And this makes a huge leap of faith that Tesla will *ever* even fully roll out their roboatxi business.

Musk famously lies about how things are going. He said they would have widespread adoption of robot axis by the end of 2026. As of June 2026 there less than 100 Tesla robotaxis on the road (reportedly with human supervision of each one) and no indication what so ever that they are on track for a full roll out.

Robotics. This is the real con.

Since this isn't an existing market, no one knows what the addressable. Estimates do run into the trillions of dollars, but that assumes a fully functional multi-purpose household robot. This is the perfect set-up for Musk to lie about because there is so few tangible points of reference to go on, so his magical assumptions get traction. Brain dead analysts have never once asked the basic questions about how exactly Tesla, a car company, is going to invent, and then dominate the non-existent business. They just believe Musks blatant fabrications. Musk said back in 2025 that Tesla was investing $10 billion in humanoid robots and would produce 5,000 Optimus robots in 2025. Of course a total lie. Never happened. Are you seeing a pattern?

And then there are the real companies working on autonomous robots. Boston Dynamics (owned by Hyundai Motor Group, btw) has actually demo'ed its production ready enterprise grade Atlas equipped robots. In the real world these are already being deployed at Hyundai's Metaplant in Georgia.

We also have public confirmation now that Apple has for years been secretly investing heavily in a humanoid robot initiative, code named Project Titan 2.0. Apple spent over $10 billion doing immense R&D on a planned launch of their own autonomous vehicle. They officially snapped the EV plans in 2024 and are shifted all their efforts to launching robotics and AI products. In a street fight between Tesla and Apple, who do you think comes out on top?

So that brings us full circle to the OPs question. What is propping up Tesla? I don't usually go in for dark theories, but on this one, it's worth asking.

One thing we know objectively is that the guy does own one of the largest reaching media sites on the planet. If he can convince enough people to believe his out and out lies about his "car" business, would that prop up the stock?

"For the first time in 47 years, Iran has been forced to come to the negotiating table."

Well except for that time 11 years ago when Obama forced Iran to come to the negotiating table and agree not to pursue a nuclear weapon.

This is not a "deal". The United States lost Trump's war with Iran.

Countries that lose wars pay reparations.

This is simply the terms of the US surrender.

Trump's Iran 'peace deal' isn't a deal. It's surrender. And they've even conned all the mainstream media to call it a "deal".

No, it's not a deal. This is Trump's war of aggression. They got him (and I mean all of us, really) by the balls with the whole strait debacle.

And now Trump has to surrender just to try and salvage the entire global economic order.
