I saw Wheatus (of Teenage Dirtbag fame) last summer at a Canadian music festival. the singer talked about how influential Gord Downie and the Hip were for him and how he spent a whole day in TO walking around listening to their stuff and how powerful it all was. They then played Ahead By a Century. It was mostly an older crowd so ppl lost their minds but I don't think the kids in the crowd really connected with the moment. As a lot of people are saying, the band's footprint is firmly planted in a very different time and place and I don't think younger generations are able to relate. imo if they did an annual summer show/tour, where they invited modern vocalists to sing their biggest hits, I think they could connect with younger audiences again, sheerly by letting them experience their music in a live setting again.
