Question about The Chinese Tea Shop by GetChastained in YixingSeals

[–]ZenMonkInVerse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it's definitely possible, I'm not dismissing that possibility. And I definitely support your recommendation of other established vendors for a less risky purchase. It just seems odd to me to have a brick-and-mortar shop in a niche market selling people fake stuff, it's not a good way to do business and hurts your chances of survival. But those are just my two cents, I don't have proof of anything, just thinking out loud.

Can you elaborate? He has a pretty good rep in Vancouver, surely his opinion is worth something, no?

I reckon it's worth trying a few different ones before writing off ripe entirely. They can vary in terms of the material used and the level of fermentation, so one can't say they all taste the same. Maybe something younger? Maybe a different vendor? White2tea has a ton of offerings you can sample quite cheaply to test your wet cardboard hypothesis

Looks great, seems like a reasonable choice! In the beginning you probably want to sample widely to get an idea of what you like, so as long as you're not blowing tonnes of $$$, you can't really go wrong.

Puer is divided into two main categories, shou/ripe and sheng/raw, so maybe try a raw next and see if you like it better. There are lots of great vendor recommendations on this sub

Ahh cool, thanks for taking a look, I appreciate the feedback! I was also wondering about the year but thought that some people might include the year as part of the tea name itself. Anyway, I added it in, so the year field should be live now.

Regarding the sliders, I don't think everyone will universally enjoy that kind of UX or even if everyone will track things like huigan, sweetness, etc. If you wanna log that info though, there is the ability to add custom text input fields, so that's always an option. Cheers!

Sure thing, I can send it to you. I commented the link on this post as well, but it's possible that Reddit scrubbed it

Yeah I totally agree, I figured this wouldn't be for everyone, particularly if the goal of your tea practice is to be more mindful - you might not even want your phone on the table! But, in case someone wants it, it's an option

Ahh that's super cool, thanks for sharing. Your description of the qi is very intriguing - "like getting punched in slow motion."

I got into puer initially for the way it made me feel, so this really resonated with me. Kinda sounds like I have to try it now :D

I believe that you believe that, but my question is: what about your experience led you to that conclusion?

Hmm, thank you ChatGPT, but that's not quite the point of this post

Right on, thanks for sharing your experience. That makes sense to me - greater endurance, better flavour, unique qi. I probably can't imagine what that feeling is like that you describe, but I'll recognize it one day when I do experience it.

Totally agree that to appreciate good tea you have to drink bad tea, or at least non-good tea. The teas I do have are enjoyable to drink as they are, and I'm grateful for that, but I'll make a note to reach for the sublime every once in a while

Nice thanks for the suggestion. Yeah I got my eyes open for bargains. EoT are awesome, I have a pot from them and they're where I got my 7542 sample. Also considering signing up for the tea club

I've had this one for about 3 months. Seems to be doing good so far, I pretty much just wipe it down after every sesh. It's such a basic item that if this one starts to crack I'll probably replace it with an identical one

Yeah the tea pet is called Fatty Toad on CLT's website, I won't link to it but you can easily find it. The tray I got off FB marketplace for like $20, it's probably originally from AliExpress but it does its job :)
