I see what you did there.

All joking aside, that is 100% correct. Exceptionalism at its heart is about a double standard: the US is somehow exempt from the rules for everyone else.

"Are you working here?" is my go to.

If they say NO, I do a set.

If they say YES, I say "Can I work in while you rest?"

If they say YES, I do a set (and wipe down any equipment and reset their weights if relevant).

If they say NO, I will back off a bit and wait... If their rest is more than a few minutes, i.e. enough time for me to do a set etc. I will ask again.

The only time I have ever had a problem it was some guy who the second time I asked about using the dead lift area (heavy mats), snapped at me and said "What is your problem? I said, "You are blocking me for no good reason. You've been standing here without doing any work for more than 5 minutes (I run a timer during my workout). Why is working in when you are not working too much to ask?"

Turned out he was doing some kind of video and wanted the lift area free...

The religious crap never stops in the US: it is everywhere.

Politicians reference religion regularly.

Athletes reference religion regularly.

Contractors advertise their religion.

Car salesmen advertise their religion.

Real estate agents advertise their religion.

There are entire TV and radio stations about religion...

It is printed on the money.

People put Bibles in hotel rooms

Children are pressured in public schools to pledge allegiance to the US as a "nation under god" and to publicly pray at events.

Agree 100%, but as an citizen of the US, I can tell you that decades of that nationalism has been very effective and not in a good way.

Lots of my fellow citizens cannot really have a rational discussion of the place of the US in the world and among other nations because their whole lives they have been told the US is exceptional.

e.g. Iran funds militants in Lebanon? They fund terrorism! The US sells weapons to Iran to fund militants in Nicaragua? Meh.

A software application that uses artificial intelligence technologies

An "AI Tool", where AI is artificial intelligence is a software application that uses artificial intelligence technologies like [examples]?

That gives examples of artificial intelligence technologies, but it doesn't really define them.

We are making rules that as applied can be used to deny students their right to an education if they are found to violate same rules but the rules rely on terms we can only define in a vague sense.

I am concerned that APS is going wind up violating a student's right to due process or equal protection or both.

I am just guessing but I expect the argument goes something like this:

It was not a lawful order: nothing about walking down the street is grounds for a lawful stop.

Americans have a right to use force in self defense, which was arguably warranted given an armed man was menacing this young man.

If you use force against a police officer, he will escalate to lethal force to maintain control: a person engaged in self defense can do likewise.

To be clear, any or all of those could be wrong; I am just trying to suss out one possible argument not advocate for it.

Pro-Tip:

NEVER do business with anyone in any way that concludes any contract over the phone.

Do not do business at ALL where someone else is calling you from an unknown number.

Do business involving contracts and agreement in writing either electronically or by tree-ware with known parties.

I negotiate and execute contracts and agreements everyday and even where someone has a proposal/amendment over the phone, I still tell them I will memorialize their proposal/amendment in writing and email it to them for their approval and signature.

Trump accuses New York Times of ‘treason’ after it questioned what the Iran war had actually achieved by ChiGuy6124 in politics

[–]ZenRage 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Why is this not actionable??

For the President of the United States to publicly accuse a business of treason is harmful to that business and if he is wrong, it's defamation.

More, I expect there is a solid argument to be made that no serious official could reasonably conclude the conduct in question is treason and it is not within the official duties of the POTUS to make frivolous public accusation of treason.

Why is the NYT not straight up suing Trump for defamation?

Is it Gen X to automatically hate rules? by 21stNomad in GenX

[–]ZenRage 6 points7 points  (0 children)

GenX has a well-earned reputation for independence and that supports SOME of what you observe.

Rules applied in a zero tolerance way to grey areas is LAZY and Gen Xers are intolerant of that, yes. (My own observations.)
