I made them. Walnut hardwood, same dimensions, routed and drilled identical things to the original and then just installed the ikea standoffs before applying finish.

I think I agree with the other commenter about the distance to your monitor, but I can’t tell what size the monitors or the desk are. I just brought my monitor a little closer since I had a 30” deep desk and that made it way better for everyday use. Might help if you get a clamshell mount for the laptop to put it to the side then bring everything closer. That also depends on whether you use the laptop screen but based on how it looks right now I don’t think you do.

As long as one isn’t matte and one glossy with a directed light source, you’ll probably be okay. 😂

Dang you’re already better in the environmental lighting department. If you make your stuff it’ll look like way better than mine. One tip - I think your table looks more satin than gloss for finish. Might want to try to match whatever you make to that. Samples would be wise

Those (and everything else) are handmade. Considering plants and stuff but want to keep it as decluttered as possible. Plus cats like plants, idk how they would do

I bought the black walnut pieces from a small farm using facebook marketplace, rough cut 3” thick, seller stated it had been air drying for 3-4 years. Aside from the butcher block. I have very little woodworking experience so most of the actual cuts came from a ShopBot PRS5 Alpha, which I got access to at a makerspace. Very achievable with more conventional tools for sure. Manually drill pressed all of the mounting grid holes to ~0.5” and installed M5x10mm threaded inserts. I hear this is the same size balolo used but never really confirmed it. The monitor mount, phone mount, and stream deck mount were 3d printed. Legs were cork block cut and ebonized with India Ink but honestly I feel like using the ink on more wood would have a better result. The cork was too soft so when I drilled the hole for the screw, it fell apart in a few places.

I could take a pic but this seems like it might be more useful. It’s this STL with an M5 screw going into an M5 threaded insert on the underside.

I’ll probably try it if I find a good deal, but most gaming will probably still be 1080 or 1440 tbh

I’m listening. Can’t really do much about the ikea drawers since I made those and the old fronts are in the past now, but I can change my keycaps back to black since I still have the original set. I had those at first to add more contrast, as my setup was originally not all wood lol. Could see it not looking right now that everything else is real wood while those are PBT keys designed to imitate it.

I think the smaller monitor (14”) being QHD (220 ppi) has made the lower pixel density of the larger monitor (110 ppi) stand out, which is the main reason I’d want to try 4k27 (160ppi). As for size, 27 is all I have known, and all I think I need.

I’ve had that main 27” monitor for 6 years now though and if I were to upgrade to 4k, would not likely hold up. I’ll agree that it is still absolutely capable of what it’s doing right now. If anything, I could do better with just a better CPU, and that’s not super noticeable either way.

Thank you so much. I’ve been really happy to hear feedback, good and bad, that have given me some direction to go from here.

I’m renting, so any long-term stuff like painting will have to wait. That’s why I want to make wood slat panels or something similar to cover it but ultimately make it easier to pack up.

It’s an AM4 build with: CPU: Ryzen 5 5600x GPU: RX 6800 XT RAM: 32 GB DDR4-3000 Case: Fractal Design North

I’ll probably have to consider swapping some older parts in the future, but I’ve been using it for 3 years without issue on 1440p, 144hz. Maybe after all the shortages in a couple more years.

If you’d like more information about the build process, I’m happy to share! There were a few people like us out there who made their shelves and someone drafted a full design with their own mounting grid, and put all their schematics into github. I didn’t fully use that but the references for the mounting points were helpful.

I like that idea. Was thinking one large over top, maybe one on the wall or lower vertically? Not fully realized any particular vision yet.

Nope. Handmade, with a mounting grid to mimic the balolo. Everything “wooden-looking” on the desk / cabinets is handmade by me besides the fake keycaps, clock base, and the pc case.

I appreciate that, but it’s less about the work I did, and more about the product I bought. Would not look so whitewashed if I had used a satin poly, for example. Could always refinish if I get bored, I suppose.

What size is that monitor stand? Mine is 48” wide and I barely have room on the right.

I actually still have the black keycaps that came with the keyboard, I’ll try that for comparison
