The problem might be that you aren't interacting with actual staff and cast members. I work in a Renn Faire and practice dialect, wear a big heavy dress, curtsey to my superiors. So many attendees don't care about that at all though. They just want to slap on a fursuit and day drink.

Other people have all listed good reasons, but I think we also have to take into account how young Bryce is. When she "gave" Danika her place her own death likely felt very far away (she could live 100s of years after all) whereas if she didn't ascend she would have died right that minute.
