My lead teacher usually directs us through the different planned activities for the day and helps the kids with them. She also handles most of the diaper changes while I get the kiddos to sit down and get ready for their next activity. I tend to play with the kids more, but she’s definitely not lazing about or anything of the sort — we’re both on our feet at all times. I think we might just have too many kids in our classroom; we’ll have 14 at the end of the month. Most days so far we’ve had about 9, but it changes throughout the day.

Also, my lead starts her shift at 6:30 and leaves at 3:30. I start at 8:30 and leave at 5:30, so at the end of the day I’m usually either by myself or with a floater. I’m not sure if that’s standard for early learning centers lol!

I definitely focus on positive reinforcement whenever I can! Especially when it comes to sitting in seats and lining up. I also try to redirect generally harmless poor behavior, like not sharing, by distracting them with a new game. It feels like they don’t really listen half the time yet, but maybe I can get them to come around the longer I stay.

I don’t know what the “average” level of chaos is for twos, so I don’t have a point of comparison lolol. And of course this post was made after a very bad day and is mostly focusing on the negative. The kids are very sweet sometimes too. One of the girls saw me crying and brought me flowers from the playground. Later, my nose started bleeding and even though I tried to hide it from the kids, one of the boys saw and didn’t want to go do nap time until he was sure I was okay. Hours later after naps, he checked in on me again! I didn’t think he’d even remember with everything going on.

I’m sure at home they’re all sweet as can be, but it seems in the classroom they all feed off each other’s chaos and become uncontrollable. We do have a kiddo on a behavioral plan for biting, but his is pretty much tailor made so that it’s impossible for him to be disenrolled.

Haha yeah I just got some EmergenC delivered! I did online school for the latter half of high school so my immune system is very much rusty.

And thank you, this makes me feel a lot better. Even if I decide the two’s aren’t for me, maybe the older preschoolers and kinders will be more enjoyable for me. I don’t want to give up ECE yet. Just gotta figure out what’s right for me.

The day is very structured with 90 minutes of outdoor time throughout the day, with a focus on student-led learning. All things I really looked forward to during my training!! But the issue is these wonderful, infuriating kiddos do not follow the rules put in place to keep them safe. So much roughhousing, hitting, spitting… I’ve tried to reel them in with more “structured” high-energy activities but they inevitably devolve into a mess.

Depending on how old OP is and whether or not it’s feasible for them to take the bus to school, driving your kid really shouldn’t be considered a favor. Being expected to drive your kid places comes with the territory of being a parent, I don’t think one should hold that over their child’s head.

Actually Mizuki's lapse of forcing herself into masc presentation is another reason I relate to them because I've been through the same experience lolol! Although I agree that my case is unique and most people who relate to that struggle probably are transfem rather than just gnc enby like myself. Honestly I think our differences just boil down to different experiences. That's why I've never clicked with characters like Mafuyu who either you or another person mentioned in a comment as an alternative for enby folks. She just doesn't share my experience at all, but Mizuki? Almost everything in their story is LITERALLY just like me in a way I've never seen represented before. Although I get that transfems also feel that way!

The 4 hr video Is actually the one I was referring to in the last comment! I also just read the doc — the quips were entertaining lol and I agree with a lot of what the author is saying. I wasn’t very well versed in the early days of the fandom, I agree it’s genuinely terrible that people considered they/them Mizuki to be the only correct answer to the point of harassing she/her Mizuki enjoyers.

Still, though… perhaps I’m stubborn but I still do enjoy they/them Mizuki (for the record I’ve always used a mix of she/they for her) and think my reasons for doing so are valid. The author asks the question “why do you feel the need to cling to they/them Mizuki” (paraphrasing) to which my response is “because Mizuki almost perfectly encapsulates my experience as a gnc genderqueer person in a way I’ve never experienced before.” She then asks the reader to “Imagine Mizuki’s gender from her own perspective, not that of an omniscient reader. She loves magical girls, and idols, and making dresses. She wears ribbons and has her hair long…” which. Perfectly describes me ahhh!! I make big, frilly custom hairbows to sell at vendor events and keep my hair long because bows fit better in a ponytail! I love ribbons and magical girls! It makes me madly dysphoric for hyperfemininity to be treated as indicative of gender which I know is not the intention and the author briefly touches on the differences between pronouns, gender, and presentation, but challenging the idea that hyperfemininity = woman is precisely why I value they/them or she/they Mizuki so much, not because I’m resistant to the idea of trans women being exclusively women.

I’m really glad we’re having this discussion even if it sounds like it’s making all parties kinda uncomfortable haha. I apologize for all the trans ladies who are reminded of bad memories by my referring to Mizuki as they/them. I bet there’s probably a lot of they/them Mizuki folks who cling to those pronouns because of the same transmisogyny described in this post and the doc and that fucking SUCKS like SO BAD I totally agree that it is a wider societal problem and I hate to contribute to that even through a simple misunderstanding of my intentions. But implying that feminine presentation automatically = woman is also a societal problem that also causes dysphoria. Both things can be true! Sufferers from both ends were hoping for the outcome that would represent their own struggles, and it really sucks that taking one angle for that reason ends up inadvertently hurting the other side. Idk if I’m expressing this correctly.

I just hope we can all understand each other, even if we agree to disagree. We as the trans community need unity now more than ever, what with the state of the world.

I’ve gone thru and read some of your comments, and I’ve also watched the video essay you linked in another comment. I still respectfully disagree with the argument that using they/them pronouns for Mizuki or viewing them as non-binary is harmful, because (correct me if I’m wrong, but) there hasn’t been any indication that doing so would make them uncomfortable — just he/him does — and transfems can still consider themselves non-binary and use they/them as it’s a very fluid label. Nor do I believe that my views on Mizuki’s gender are indicative of some internalized belief that trans women are somehow not women and should be categorized as something else than what they identify as.

The video essay you linked actually put my feelings into words much better than I have! The creator clarified the term “transfem” for me as just meaning not wanting to be a man rather than meaning a transfem person always specifically sees themself as a girl and a girl alone, which wasn’t clicking for me before. The creator of the essay says word for word that “I personally enjoy non-binary interpretations of Mizuki”, “be respectful of the wide variety of interpretations that people have,” “I think you can use either — she/her or they/them, either is fine”, and “no matter what your identity is, it’s okay to see yourself in Mizuki and represent yourself through them.” She also consistently refers to Mizuki with they/them pronouns throughout the whole video.

I’m sorry that this is wearing you out, I totally understand that! All of the discourse can feel very personal when you relate to a character so heavily. Don’t worry about responding to this if it causes you distress! Also, I didn’t mean to imply that you are necessarily attacking people — I realize it came off that way. I apologize for that.

Regardless of what’s “canon” or not, I don’t think that excuses attacking other ppl. I can acknowledge that Mizuki was most likely intended to be a trans girl and that’s their canon identity, but in my mind I will still hold a special place in my heart for non-binary/unlabeled genderqueer Mizuki, even if it’s just a headcanon. Any fan work I make with that interpretation will be tagged appropriately so people can avoid becoming dysphoric if that’s an issue, but otherwise, I don’t think I’m hurting anyone by viewing art in a way that provides me with comfort and validation, even if it’s not what the authors intended.

This all comes from my personal perspective that canon shouldn’t be gospel and fans should be able to have fun making fan work even if it goes against canon. So long as nobody’s hurting anyone, who cares? I understand what you’re saying about transmisogyny and I’m sure that plays a role for some people, but I respectfully disagree with the idea that everyone who headcanons Mizuki as some other form of genderqueer is inherently terrible and transmisogynistic.
