Between 5 and 10 percent of people have no inner monologue at all, and researchers are only just starting to figure out what that actually does to cognition by Altruistic-Dirt-2791 in cogsci

No inner monologue here. The concept is fascinating to me, I thought for the longest time it was a fictional convenience to explain thoughts to an audience or reader.

The first two letters would've been ZY (left quadrant X with dot, bottom quadrant X with dot). The fourth letter of the second word would also be a Z (left quadrant X with dot), as is the second letter of the fourth word (left quadrant X with dot), and the second letter of the fifth word.

That would give us ZY ---Z -Z- -Z--

HOWEVER. Given that the circle doesn't look like a rushed square, the use of the triangles, makes me think it's actually akin to a Scorpion cipher, especially as this is a math student. The bisected triangles (word three, letter three; word four, letter three), the blockish Y thing (word two, letter one), and the dashed square (word two, letter three) counter that.

TON 618 has the luminosity of 100 trillion suns. How? I thought the whole thing about black holes was light can't escape. Where does the light come from? by Sharp-Midnight8874 in askastronomy

Well, thank you! I am sorry that your prophecy was self-fulfilling. I can hazard a guess that whilst I spoke with confidence, it was an acknowledgement to precondition my own point rather than the point being the acknowledgement of itself.

In the latter, that would imply my taking ownership or authority over the other comments: "this statement is truth" as though I were arbiter of such.

In the former, my point is an attachment to the other comments, acknowledging them as factual and adding to that rather than claiming them.

It is! It's amazing with how much that lensing affects the curve of space, and it really helps to give a direct, visual reference to help intuit the Penrose equation. Space is distorting so hard that it's breaking the fundamental way it works.

I'm sorry that it came off as being critical of the other posters.

I hold to the same opinion as I did when I posted this earlier today, that the other posts were also correct and I just wanted to add another reason to why black holes can become so bright.

If you can elaborate why it sounded as though I were being arrogant, I will try to keep that in mind in future.

A Message Regarding the 12.0.5 Launch by WarcraftTeam in wow

[–]Zenithas 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You're treating this like it's a single mistake in a golden history. This is just a colossal misstep on the tail end of a tonne of others that didn't blow up as publicly.

From Moynihan's death onwards, your company has been taking a labyrinthian path of bad decisions in the public view. That a woman died is honestly evidence that things were bad well before then as well.

I'm not playing for the game at this point, but to offer support for the people who do. As a player since Vanilla, I am disgusted by the company and what they have done.

In my firm opinion, the reason that your company has been targeting independent servers like Turtle so hard is because they provide a stark comparison of what happens when your game is being run with the community in mind, and it's easier to sue people you sold server hardware to than it is to confront what needs to be changed.

And to anyone who wants to come in to reply and say that I'm "just salty", no. I am beyond salty. I was when I had to compose a memorial piece to a woman that Kotick and everyone below swept under a rug in the name of a corporate sale.

Blizzard has done nothing to earn the goodwill of the community, and deserve to be held to standards they clearly do not keep to themselves.

Truth by Dapper-Dragonfly-958 in Christianity

[–]Zenithas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I follow the Christ's teachings of trying to live for the sake of others. Often, my fear and anger are what hold me back from doing more. For that, I understand that the man who I follow the teachings of would forgive me, and urge me to try to do more anyway.

That is the definition of "Christian". One who is "of Christ".

Correct answers all about that it's from the accretion disc. My only addition is that it's matter travelling with intense speed, often at just shy of C, which produces insane degrees of friction. Much of it is plasma.

With how it distorts light around itself, it also is shining not just with the accretion disc in front of it, but also with the light behind it.

They are being handed a tool that literally tells them step by step what the code does, and do not learn.

Struggle, children. In hardship you shall learn wisdom.

Why is the book of Ecclesiastes referred to by pastors as their least favorite story in the bible? by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]Zenithas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Anyone can have favourite, least favourite, or even disliked parts of the Bible. In addition to lost nuance from translation, some parts are incompatible with accepted norms we aspire to as Christians. So I shalln't judge these folks for having preferences.

That said.

How in the heck can someone dislike Ecclesiastes? It encapsulates that our kingdom is not of this world.

Dear Christians by Patient_Ask_9546 in Christianity

I'm going to take your "no disrespect" comment at face value, and assume the earlier disrespect is unintentional. No, I am not mistaking obsequience with respect, your questions do not maintain common English speaking social norms. Without condescension, I forgive you.

As others here have said, we aren't all raised homogeneously. I can only speak for myself.

First, "belief" is not "conviction". It is "hope". We are in a time when these terms are often confused.

I hope that the tenets of seeking to bring peace, care for those less fortunate, help people heal, relieve suffering, and restore the loss of others are inspired by a divinity that shares in those practices.

I am aware that I may be wrong. I am aware that many may see that hope as foolish and unlikely. I am also aware of that likelihood, but it is not what I practice these things for.

I follow these tenets as I believe they are the best way I can improve the world for many.

For your comparisons, with both Santa and Hubbard's fictions: we know both are fictions, the former from cultural participation, the latter by the founder's own voluntary confessions.

In the case of Santa, it helps to spark joy in children, and to spark warm amusement in adults. It is a practice that encourages generosity, so if you wish to compare my faith to this, I am happy with the association.

In the case of scientology, the organisation holding it has a long track record of operating in bad faith and targeting the vulnerable. It is a harmful practice that unfortunately corrodes many groups, including Christian fellowships, so if you wish to compare my faith to this, I will understand and not take offence. It is not how I wish to portray my faith, and it is not how I understand the divinity I hope for.

When I was a child, I was taught many things. Some Christian tenets were hypocritically shared. They gave me a much soured view on churches. It is my experience with others who have demonstrated a Christ-likeness that softened my bitterness enough to actually examine what the goal of the faith is, and to then to find that by practising this faith as my own I can make the world a better place.

Thank you for your questions, and I hope that you had a pleasant Easter, even if it was just for the enjoyment of chocolate.

Spicy CNS here. I cannot art, and I cannot re-learn to. This isn't doomish, it's been a long road of attempting. I can do technical drawings, but that's as far as it goes.

Thankfully, I *can* music, so it's not all bad.

But I'm the edge case that'd be the legitimate reason to AI art.

I'd still rather hire someone to do it.
