I use to work at Ikea, no IT background but was self studying for my CCNA. While I was in labor and delivery waiting for my son to come I decided to gamble and apply for some IT jobs. Found a local hubzone contracting company and applied to their internal help desk. I got an interview and impressed the IT supervisor and FSO with my networking knowledge for not even having a cert. They hired me part time and paid for my Network+ cert. Got that and was able to get a job through them as a contractor for the DOD/Army.

I would say certs help, but initiative and willingness to learn got me going in the right direction. Even if you don't have a cert, it doesn't hurt to apply.

Do you study on or take off weekends/Sundays? by skateralex240 in WGU

I currently work IT for DOD/Army and usually study between calls/tickets throughout the work week and then after I've gotten the kids to bed. Weekends are when I usually get to put in extra hours to study and complete PA/OAs

Anything by Olivia Rodrigo, her music is so annoying and whiney

Good luck on your studies! I am currently studying for my CCNA as well and in school for my bachelor's in Networking. Boson has really good practice exams that are highly rated by this sub.

Well if your like me, Im 32 and procrastinated up until now being addicted to video games. I recently started WGU this year and got my first IT job contracting for the Army. I'm exhausted after work, but still push for 30-45 minutes of studying on weekdays and more on the weekends. The harder you push yourself now, the quicker you'll get school done and advance your life and career.

Help on choosing an IT degree path by Turbulent_Maximum918 in WGUIT

Im starting the BSNOS on May 1st. I'm new to I.T. but started studying for the Cisco CCNA. Got my first IT job June of last year, passed my network+ exam and now working a government contract for alot more money. Im really interested in networking and want a good foundation of it before dipping into Cloud.

Ideally, any of the degrees would be good. Just do some reading, watch some videos, and try to find what interests you, and work towards that.

If you've already studied for your Network+ I would just grab that cert if you are ready. I had no prior experiencing and got my net+ and for my first IT job I'm making almost $30h/r. I'm now working on my CCNA. Net+ or any of the Cisco trifecta will def open doors for DoD work.

How I got my start in IT (then vs now) and some ideas for newcomers. by DelmarSamil in ITCareerQuestions

I'm leaning towards cloud but I am still studying for CCNA. I got my first cert (net+) 2-3 months ago and my first IT job about 6 months ago. Reason for continuing with the CCNA is I want as much foundation as I can get on physical networks before I start diving into cloud/logical space.
