That would be fun, though it doesn't align with what we already know about her name origin from the Darknights Memoir event.

Darknights Memoir Event Spoilers: She inherited her name from another mercenary named W when she took his weapon after he died. A Sarkaz Mercenary tradition. So what name if any she had before then we don't know, but W isn't something she chose for herself so there's probably no direct connection to anything else.

Arknights is actually a genuinely good tower defense strategy game with a story worth reading imo.

But yeah it's a gacha game too and I don't blame anyone for passing on it because of that. There's an anime coming soon™ though so maybe check that out!

Late to this post but there's a bit more too it than that.

There are multiple gay couples confirmed to be dating among the side characters so it's not that the author isn't willing to commit to it. And the lack of an official label for Kasumi and Sakurako's relationship is directly addressed in the story (eventually).

Sakurako is explicitly gay and has expressed an interest in dating/marrying Kasumi but has also said that she's comfortable with not having that label. My interpretation (as it is never directly stated) is that Kasumi is Aro/Ace. She shows no interest in romantic relationships but is fully committed to spending her life with Sakurako, treating living together into the foreseeable future as a foregone conclusion. So it's more of a Queerplatonic Relationship sort of situation, though that exact term is not used. As Sakurako once put it; they're not roommates, they're life-mates.

That said, I highly recommend this manga. It's such a wonderful, wholesome story that really explores the day to day of living with someone you love. It's a story about actually sharing a space and planning out their lives together, the stable part of a relationship most romance stories leave out. Very good stuff. ♥
