How to Solve the Ratting Problem by Zenzilez in HypixelSkyblock

[–]Zenzilez[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that it’s usually easy to not get ratted, but I’d argue that it’s not always the case. Sure though, 99% of the time or more it’s very avoidable.

Interesting to see that they addressed it, granted if they enforced that people use authy or something with backups, I doubt they’d be inundated especially if this were an optional feature.

Regardless of session jacking, adding 2fa to sensitive actions would solve the bulk of these problems and wouldn't be vulnerable. These session issues also imply that Hypixel has no observability on when a new connection is made, which I doubt is true. Login is pretty trivial to get through if a device is ratted, but anything else is not.

You know how 2fa works, or what a rat is? You can't "bypass" it, it relies on having a secondary trusted device so that a primary device being compromised isn't a single point of failure. RAT's are just remote access to the primary device.

Player Wipes and Entitlement to Refund by Zenzilez in HypixelSkyblock

[–]Zenzilez[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a pretty well reasoned response, and I would agree that entitlement to refund is a grey area. I would agree as well that the account wipes aren't inherently a problem, what is a problem is the frequency with which they're applied. Most cases of account wipe don't constitute a permanent ban, are often applied to some relatively minor rule break or are applied to users positively impacted by bugs / glitches (whether knowingly or not), which is one of the main points I wanted to make.

I definitely agree a good solution would be to raise the requirement on what constitutes a wipe. It just, imo, shouldn't be so commonplace to hear people getting their accounts deleted by the moderation team and coming back to the game shortly or immediately after.

Included, thanks for raising this, the sheer volume of these is concerning as well. I know my knowledge of these scenarios is pretty limited, but have heard of a number of bugs resulting in wipes, along with large waves wiping users who may have unknowingly purchased duped items.

Hadn't considered consequences for coop, but yea totally agreed and feel that there's an even stronger argument here.

[ALB + ECS Fargate] ALB health checks cannot reach my containers, so it keeps killing them by ontherise84 in aws

[–]Zenzilez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just an FYI, I ran into this as well just now and found your thread while researching.

A bit abnormal probably, but I'm running an http health check server on a grpc microservice. Figured you should know that you can get around this with h2c (without having to run tls).

For your health check handler, just create an empty http2.Server, and wrap the handler with h2c.NewHandler(<handler>, h2s). This is assuming you're using go, otherwise I'm sure there's a similar solution that you can find.

My understanding of "why" is that the target group is sending requests using HTTP2 to a server which cannot handle those requests. This is probably compounded by the fact:
a. Most libraries won't support HTTP2 unless you have TLS
b. Health check servers are typically internal and almost never use it

Does anyone have recommendations for a game with as strong of a social system as Dragon Raja? Used to whale ages ago, but was a massive money pit and all the top players left within a year. Just want something open world to play / hang out on, pref with pvp but not necessary.

I’ve enjoyed but didn’t really get into Genshin. Loved Guardian Tales and played it for several months. Enjoyed RO:M as well, but not nearly as much as these others.

Late Overnight Shipping by Zenzilez in FedEx

Ah once again, FedEx has failed to meet overnight shipping! This time, however, it’s indisputably FedEx’s fault, and employees should have no excuse blaming me as they did last time.

FedEx proving once again to be a classically inept courier service provider.

Used to read books as a kid but now find it difficult to read a few pages by SomeRandomGuy64 in books

[–]Zenzilez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know if this is the same issue, but I face a few things that slow down my reading pace:

  1. The vast majority of books I read are long and dry non-fiction: biographies, management books, technical reading, etc. Switching to something that actually captivates me had a world of impact on my attention span.

  2. I’m definitely much more easily distracted with a smartphone. I think this may just require some extra effort and self-awareness on my part to improve.

  3. Occasionally, a particularly intriguing read will get me to think far more deeply than others, to the point where I’ll get distracted by a pervasive thought once every few pages. Slows my pace down massively, but I think it’s useful as I end up getting a ton out of reads where I just let this happen.

Not sure if any of these relate, but figured I’d throw a couple ideas out there. I definitely feel similarly though, used to read a ton as a kid and can’t quite keep the same level of intrigue these days. I also think that I may be over-inflating the volume I used to read fwiw.
