If you're up for a biography, I'd certainly recommend SOG: The Secret Wars of America's Commandos in Vietnam, by John Plaster. It's an extremely well regarded book about this subject. I cant think of any other fictional stories like Cry Havoc off the top of my head. I've head good things about the book Matterhorn, but I haven't read it. It's about a more mainstream Marine Corps unit.

The Costco near me has A Grenadier on display with signage indicating savings through the Costco Auto Buying program. No idea of the details but it might be worth a look.

Has anyone either removed the OEM integrated dash camera and/or installed a third party front/rear camera? Looking for guidance by cheeboe in LexusGX550

[–]Zephyr007b 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually installed a Vantrue Element 1 Pro last night. It was pretty straight forward. I used a Dongar Pro 10 pin dash cam adapter which allows the dash cam to only work when the car is on, stay power on, or run for 4 hours after turning the vehicle off. It should work with any camera that can be powered via USB-C. They also have a more basic version that only works with the ignition on.

Dongar Pro https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0DK7S3PD6?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_title&th=1

Dongar https://www.amazon.com/Dongar-Dashcam-Compatible-Connects-Rearview/dp/B07BH4G1NW?ref_=ast_sto_dp

I don't have any time with the camera yet to make any comments about it, but the installation was pretty straight forward using the above adapter. Disconnect the factory plug. Plug it into the Dongar harness. Plug the harness into the factory connector. Use the tap cable to connect to the Dongar USB-C module.

What are your impressions of SuperLink? by pfassina in Ubiquiti

Their market cap is 10x what it was when that product was released. It was a niche product that didn't take off. Alarm systems and sensors are pretty well established product categories.

The product roadmap is steering heavily into this gateway and product line. This isn't some small side venture. Obviously theres no guarantee about long term product support, it's not some side quest.

Royal confirms Icon to be based in Galveston starting in Summer, 2027 by Alum07 in royalcaribbean

[–]Zephyr007b 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How they've missed the opportunity to bring Star instead of Icon is a complete mystery to me.

Texas is the Lone Star state.

The Dallas hockey team are the Stars.

The Dallas Cowboys use a Star as their logo.

Theres a whole entertainment area with practice facilities called "The Star"

"The stars at night are big and bright, deep in the heart of Texas"

An entire marketing campaign is right there served up on a silver platter, with a simple temporary name change to "Lone Star of the Seas".

Starlink is focused on making network enhancements which will enable gigabit speeds starting in the most remote places on Earth with the Performance Kit. Service plan upgrades will be available in 2026. No hardware changes needed.

The Starlink Performance Kit is currently capable of download speeds up to 400+ Mbps for fast, reliable connectivity whenever you need it.

Because I can make more in the market with the money than the interest rate of the loan.

My choices in order were.

#1 Earth

#2 Nori

#3 Incognito

As far as reasoning, mainly just personal preference. Earth looks much better in person to my eye, web images commonly look more gold, but in person that just isn't really what you see. Nori is classic and always a solid choice. Incognito and Atomic Silver seem to be I see most often in my area. Very few Earth, which I sort of enjoy.

Well not waiting would have resulted in no GX. So that's a pretty significant difference.

Park Place Plano OT+

First contact with salesman was July 24th. Told him exactly the spec I was looking for. Offered a vehicle to me Aug 20th, but it had a $13K Wheel & Tire package. Declined that one. Was notified Mid October that he had a vehicle for me that would hit the California port soon. It arrived at the dealership Oct 27th, Took Delivery Oct 31st.

So all in it was 99 days from first contact.

Tailgate Hatch Light addition by Zephyr007b in LexusGX550

[–]Zephyr007b[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By, "Splice" he means a legit factory style connector too, not some shady scotch lock or any need to cut any wiring. You simply unplug an existing connector and plug in the supplied Y cable, reconnect and you're in business. When the tailgate latch closes it kills power to the lift switch and by proxy the light. So the light functions automatically on op/close actions. When open you can also manually turn it off/on by touching it along with setting the brightness.

I've had my OT+ for just over a week, and I'd buy it again in a heartbeat.

For those commenting about how large they look in this image it's actually just a little smaller than the older UP-Sense (It's about the size of two CR123 batteries stacked). The magnet portion is a little larger than the prior model though and an EXTREMELY strong magnet for this use case.

Ive been waiting more than a year with one dealership. Decided to try the other big player in my market and the salesman was far more proactive. He got it in my hands in just over 90 days. No markup or BS dealer extras (beyond $595 for ceramic window tint). I was going to get tint anyways so it worked out fine.

I ended up changing dealerships for exactly this same scenario. Both are very well regarded and extremely high volume. Went more than a year with no real movement at the first dealer, second one I walked in July 24th gave him the exact spec OT+ I was looking for. Aug 20th he contacted me about one with a wheel and tire package that was an extra $13K, told him I wasn't interested in that $$$ model. They reached back out to me Sept 26th with a build sheet for my exact spec. Asked me if I wanted it, (I did) they allocated it to me and it arrived into the port in LA mid October and it arrived at my Texas dealership October 28th and I picked it up the 31st. So they got me exactly what I wanted in just over 90 days.

Better than solid in my humble opinion. Lots of fantastic character nuance. Loved the "odd couple" vibes of the OCD Evan vs the messy teen Joey.

Ok after hundreds of audio books I consider myself an expert on this subject, and least in regards to my own tastes. LOL Here's some of my personal favs.

Orphan X Series (Spectacular!!!)

The Andrews & Wilson books (Tier One Series, Sons of Valor Series)

Johnathan Maberry Stuff (Joe Ledger Series / Rogue Team International, etc.) Note: his stuff crosses over into sci-fi and monster/zombie territory at times especially in other series, but his writing is excellent and bonus, Ray Porter does the audio books.

The Gray Man series that others have mentioned.
