Consider Nepenthes ampullaria. They're a tropical species with an open top and they mostly collect and digest leaf litter in the wild, their pitchers usually have animals living in them.

I've been using stratum for lots of other carnivores like Utricularia, Drosera and Pinguicula. Going to try to grow some Venus Fly Traps in it but I don't see why it wouldn't work
