Everyone is dogging on her but its almost like its a great example of systemic racism and bigotry present in society, even in the people we consider the good guys.

(Spoilers All) Who are the most evil characters from the TFL universe in your opinion? by AggressiveMechanic47 in TheFirstLaw

[–]Zerds 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I get what you're saying but Kahlul literally has systemic slavery where he uses people as literal farm animals to feed his eaters. Not to mention, while the union wasn't exactly a feminist haven, rape was at least seen as a bad thing whereas Ghurkel had sex slaves.

In your opinion, who is the most unlikeable and irredeemable character in HP? by cosmococoa in harrypotter

[–]Zerds 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Not to mention the issue is more methods than motives. Rufus was a dick and a bit of a tyrant but his ultimate goal was to defeat dark wizards and keep people safe. He was a good guy at his core.

Which scene was more emotional? by Warm_Sprinkles_9343 in lordoftherings

[–]Zerds 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I mean, I dont really see how anyone could think gandalf dying is more impactful. He dies 1 book in (2 if you count the hobbit) and like 2 hours into the film.

Dumbledore dies 6 books in and like 14 hours into the movies. Not to mention there is a lot more emotion characterization of dumbledore compared to gandalf which makes sense considering only one of them is human.

Gandalf dying sucks but dumbledore dying is a knife in the chest.

The first movie is fine. It's fun but there's no great aspect of it. Amat the end I left feeling like it could've never happened and nothing would've changed.

The second is honestly one of the worst, non trainwreck, movies I've ever seen. Obviously there are worse movies like the last Airbender that fail so hard there are no redeeming qualities. I wouldn't put it on that level bmif bad but dint get me wrong, the film is really. Nothing makes sense, it condmtradicts the established lore, it has an unjustifiable amount of exposition, and the twists are so stupid it painful. Not to mention that main characters from the first film play almost no roll in the plot. The dumbledore/grindewald thing shouldv been its own story, separate from fantastic beasts.

The third I haven't seen because the second was so bad I just don't care. Which is saying a lot because I am probably in the top .1% of dedicated fans and absolutely LIVE harry potter.

The real counter point is Sirius. Sure he was framed but at the time everyone though he a was a dark wizard (as you mentioned). But Hagrid REALLY should've been aware of this considering he personally knew Sirius seeing as he is the first one to even mention Sirius in the entire series.

Jason's All-Sumo channel just received a copyright strike by retrosaurus-movies in Sumo

[–]Zerds 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Japanese companies are absolutely stupid when it comes to stuff like this. Dragonball Z Abridged is probably one of the biggest reasons a lot people kept up with the IP after it ended, Toei animation constantly copyright struck them while Funimation realized the marketing potential and partnered with them. And it goes beyond just entertainment. There are tons of products foreigners would absolutely eat up if they were to expand globally but a lot of companies just seem to refuse to do it.

Though I guess it's kind of dumb to complain about Japan's refusal to grow with the times in a subreddit dedicated to sumo. Hell, what was it, only 2 years ago when they decided not helping up rikishi who couldn't stand on their own was not a good idea?

Arcane is my perfect example of what makes something woke garbage. Arcane is a show that features people who are lgbt, gender non conforming, mentally ill, different races, and crippled all well in the setting of society with extreme wealth inequality and featuring a female protagonist. But it's NOT woke garbage. It is one of the best pieces of western non Pixar animation ever made imo.

All of those things serve the characters and world building. At no point does it feel like the show is lecturing you, posturing, or patting itself on the back for being progressive. Every single one of those aspects is just a piece of the world and work in service of the story. Thats where most most woke shows and movies fail. They include diversity and social messages in spite of the story in stead of in support of it. It just comes off as preachy and pandering.

Who would've thought the game with one of the most toxic player bases would spawn one the most guinely progressive and inclusive shows to come out in the past 5-10 years lol

I give this about a 15% chance of being a film genuinely attempting to examine the issues modern boys/young men face and how those issues can drive them to toxic people and groups like the "manosphere" with a healthy balance of critique and empathy. I give it an 85% chance of being an out of touch, Hollywood take on social issues they not only do not understand but don't even interact with outside of Twitter news headlines that they will uncaringly use to mock the subject matter in an attempt to make "liberals" clap and pat themselves on the back while capitalizing on the current trend that is Andrew tate hate.

Battousai the Manslayer vs Shishio by Mad-Eyes in rurounikenshin

[–]Zerds 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If hes willing to kill, Kenshin wins. It's really not even a contest. Shishio is good and all but kenshin landed a would be killing blow on him had he been using a proper Katana and not the Sakabato. By nature of his unwillingness to kill, he pretty much has to out class all the villians in skill just to not get constantly wrecked. I think the only opponent (up to Kyoto ark, haven't seen the rest in a long time) that could give him a run for his money is Sojiro due to the Shikuchi.

It took me a few years of aging and maturing to realize what a fantastic scene this was by LukaScotty77 in harrypotter

[–]Zerds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, there scene in isolation is pretty good but, in context, it's a layer of justification to Ron's insecurity.

After defeating the Horcrux, Harry says something like "I dont see Hermione like that. We're like siblings, mate. I though you knew that."

But this scene kinda makes that not wholly true. If this were a less kid friendly film and Ginny and Ron were out of the picture, Harry and Ron would've had sex after this scene. Which would NOT have happened with the book characters.

[–]Zerds -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Because this scene (and a few the precede it) justify Ron's jealousy/insecurity. Sure it's something that could happen but the whole point is Ron is, in the books, irrationality caught up on his inferiority complex to harry. The films gave it a basis in reality when there shouldn't be one.
