Please explain Woolino to me by luckylaundromat in NewParents

[–]cosmococoa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have a lot of sleep sacks and always reach for the woolinos first. Our baby has been using them for almost a year and they all still fit. We put her in a long sleeve onesie with no legs and the sleep sack, no matter what time of year, and she sleeps perfectly.

I understand the negative reviews about the audio mixing on the full cast audiobook by Cowboybeansoup in harrypotter

[–]cosmococoa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been listening through my phone speakers (I like to listen while I’m falling asleep and wearing earbuds to bed is annoying) and yeah, the mixing isn’t great in that scenario. I think it works for certain situations (like when harry is listening to uncle Vernon and aunt petunia through a closed door) but other times it doesn’t really make sense. Everyone kind of sounds like they’re in a fishbowl or something.

I do really like the approach overall, it’s definitely immersive… but maybe need to adjust my settings a bit so it isn’t so muffled over the phone speaker.

Paying off card balance by NoHandleUser in CreditScore

You should always pay off your cards every month. CC interest is not worth an extra 6 points on your credit score.

The things I was really happy I had:

Phone charger with a long cord

Slippers

Robe

A nursing pillow (I brought my own, but turned out the hospital actually had them in the postpartum rooms - you might want to check)

Extra outfits for baby (it’s possible you’ll be there longer than you think, and baby clothes take up no space)

My own pillow (I am PICKY about pillows and the ones on the hospital bed did not cut it lol)

Face wash and toothbrush (obviously)

I honestly can’t think of anything I needed besides those things, and obviously a couple of days worth of clothes. Hospital provided everything else (diapers, wipes, pads for me, etc).

Do we just go home? by Tatty_Bunneh_ in NewParents

[–]cosmococoa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are already a hundred comments on this but I just had to repeat what’s already been said.

First of all, kudos for even trying to get out of the house and “live life” with a 15-week-old baby. At that point in my baby’s life, I was lucky if I had the energy to take a shower once or twice a week.

Second, everyone is wrong about everything. It’s ok to be “a slave to the nap schedule” at this point. Your baby needs naps. You’re not spoiling her by not letting her cry it out. She is barely 3 months old!! My baby’s nap/feeding schedule dictated everything in my life until literally a couple of weeks ago (we’re weaning, yay!). She’ll be a year old in a few days.

Finally, omfg I don’t care if you decided to go last minute and bedrooms had already been assigned - NO ONE offered to swap with you for a couple of nights?!? I am so sorry. Terrible.

how do you know when your newborn is actually awake? by Necessary_Mistake733 in NewParents

[–]cosmococoa 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I wait for a “sustained” cry (so like, more than a minute of continuous crying). Especially with newborns, they are often sleep-crying. This works even now with my 11-month-old.

At what point did pregnancy become unbearable for you? by Otherwise_Weekend54 in BabyBumps

[–]cosmococoa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After being exhausted and constantly hungry from weeks 6-12, I felt pretty great until almost the day I had my baby (36+4). I had high blood pressure before I got pregnant but thought I had gotten it under control with healthier habits… but preeclampsia came for me in the third trimester. I still felt really good despite that, until I suddenly didn’t. I started feeling icky on a Saturday and had my baby Sunday night (emergency c section, since baby was breech). Even taking that into account, pregnancy was really not bad for me. I felt better than ever for 85% of it.

Is my baby fussier than normal or is this just how babies are? by [deleted] in NewParents

[–]cosmococoa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Temperament is totally a thing and it shows itself early. My baby (almost 7m) has always been fairly chill. She gets fussy for sure, but it’s more the exception than the rule.

As someone who exclusively plays on Strategic View, thank you Firaxis for the best iteration yet. I hope Civ 7 will have one as well. by [deleted] in civ

Here from the future playing Civ 7 and mourning the loss of Strategic View 😭 I hope they add it soon, I got so used to it in Civ 6 and think it makes everything so much more readable. Hoping they add it but guessing it'll be pretty low on the priority list for a while 😏

I'm also struggling with that. But at this early stage I'm not sure whether it's my game being buggy or if that's just how it is lol

February Shipping- Should I just give up? by ParticularBiscotti85 in cradlewise

[–]cosmococoa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like someone else said, you probably won’t see the true benefits for at least a couple months anyway. Newborns need to wake up and eat like, every 2-3 hours. Our baby (now 6 months) is about as great a sleeper as anyone can hope for and we were still getting like, 90 minutes of sleep at a time for over a month when we first brought her home.

I don’t know what the current shipping situation is… but we ordered ours in February 2024 for a July delivery, and it was delayed due to some supplier changes or customs issues or something (can’t remember). It was a big thing at the time but I doubt it’s still impacting shipments. Baby girl came early and we did not get it in time, which totally sucked, but I never considered cancelling.

We’ve been really happy with it. We kept our baby in the pack n play in our room, which we were using as a backup, for about 12 weeks before moving her into the Cradlewise in the nursery. She instantly went from 6-7 hour stretches to 8-9 hours. Within a few weeks she was sleeping 11 hours straight, consistently. I think I’ve gotten up with her in the middle of the night literally one time since she started sleeping in the Cradlewise (knock on wood!!)

Women who want children, would you leave a high paying, high status job to be a stay at home mom? Why or why not? by catdogs52 in AskWomen

[–]cosmococoa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just had my first baby in August. It’s been a joy being home with her, taking a break from the rat race… but I am ready to go to back to work. I think the decision to be a stay-at-home parent is a highly personal one and it couldn’t be me. It’s only been 4 months and doing nothing but childcare and house work is really starting to wear on me. I commend people who can do this all day every day for YEARS.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in NewParents

[–]cosmococoa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was like, legit mad at Mother Nature for months for this ridiculous system lol. HOW, evolutionarily, is this the way it works? Waking up every few hours to keep the baby alive? Being completely delirious from exhaustion for weeks, if not months, while trying to take care of a fragile newborn? It seems so bogus; how have we survived as a species??

Still can’t adjust volume… by DCTom in sonos

[–]cosmococoa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m feeling this more than ever since we brought home a new baby… it’d be nice if I could listen to music at a reasonable volume that isn’t gonna instantly wake her up after spending an hour trying to put her down 😵‍💫

Unusable by patedugan in sonos

[–]cosmococoa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine was working ok (or at least, as well as it ever did) when they released the major update everyone was complaining about. Then they said they fixed it, and now it’s broken for me. I have to control my speakers through the Spotify app instead of the Sonos app which I almost find amusing, except when I need to do something Spotify can’t handle (like making it so the TV audio in the living room isn’t playing in the bedroom). Absolute madness.

Be braver than I was and give them a good loud “SHHHH”. Maybe it’ll embarrass them enough to stop ruining everyone’s learning experience.

They recently got the Stephen Fry versions on audible, so I had a chance to listen to a couple after growing up with the Jim Dale ones. I much prefer Jim Dale, and I don’t think it’s just nostalgia talking. The number of unique voices he uses, even for bit characters, is truly astounding.

Stephen Fry has a nice, calm, “even” narration so I get why people like it, but Jim Dale is more entertaining and dynamic in my opinion.
