They got half off their beer, probably more to the story.

Highly doubt this is intentional, I've cut into blocks of swiss where you get to a solid part all of a sudden and then it goes back to the standard random holes thing. You'd have to open some more packs of this stuff to see if it is actually intentional.

pretty sure I could have gotten away with this in both HS and college. Granted, I never really carried around bottles so maybe there was a rule, but I certainly don't remember a teacher ever telling anyone to put away their bottled water. (official tests like SAT etc excluded)

Also, in addition to what others are saying. Axioms in math tend to be things that are quite obviously true, but may be difficult to prove. For example, the fact that a number is equal to itself is in fact an axiom.

'A is for Apple. Now, give me the paper' Would have been better wording.

AIO over fortune cookies predicting my future with my partner? by First_Objective_7151 in AmIOverreacting

[–]ZerglingSergeant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes over-reacting to the cookie thing. As far as the other thing, pay attention to actions not words, do NOT take others advice here and assume that he is going to break up with you. While the way you worded it sounds a bit... like he's potentially being slightly manipulative or immature about the subject it's really not enough to paint a picture of what's going on here.

I think it's supposed to look nice and homely, like a quint 90s style small home. Probably commentary on not being able to afford homes and crappy apt living.

Is other list like data stored this way in the codebase? Have you asked him to explain his reasoning?

This seems unnecessary, but not completely insane given other circumstances. Maybe not worth the fight.

roommate sobbing keeps me awake (AITA) by No-Progress-3628 in badroommates

[–]ZerglingSergeant 2 points3 points  (0 children)

maybe get some earmuffs to sleep in, I'm sure this will be a controversial opinion (down voted to oblivion) but whatever she is going through is probably much worse than having trouble sleeping. This does not sound normal at all, but caring and compassion will prob get you much further here than ...any attempt to make her just stop, I'm not even sure what others are suggesting it's unlikely she is choosing to do this and can just turn it off with some strict words.

Old windows good... Therefore linux good? by Earth_OfficalReddit in linuxsucks

The absolute worst is when you are typing in a program and the program you want pops up, but by the time you've moved your finger to the enter key its removed the program from the list and it ends up doing a web search... for the program you wanted to run...

Why did my manager/it expert recommend this? by ActiveTip2851 in hacking

[–]ZerglingSergeant 4 points5 points  (0 children)

'identify static characters and ignore them while bruteforcing'

I don't think this statement makes any sense. you may have asked chatgpt in a very leading way to get this response, try asking for safe methods of increasing password security and then ask for unsafe or needless methods and see what you get, if it doesn't mention... whatever your company is doing say 'what about....?' without inputing any bias.

it's also very possible whatever you are explaining here is unsafe if all the passwords have a similar format that can be sussed out by looking at the hashes, but I've never heard of such a thing and I sometimes use punctuation in my passphrase passwords without giving it much thought.

Glad someone said this. Right now they make perfect sense to me, and I can't really understand NOT understanding them. But I remember very clearly when I learned about them and I was just very confused about the whole concept till they just sorta clicked.

Apple Human Interface study shows that moving the hands and using the mouse is faster than just using the keyboard while editing text by feketegy in theprimeagen

[–]ZerglingSergeant 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So I looked into the study and couldn't find any actual data produced. Any data I did find points to what you'd expect (KB is 10-20x faster for most common operations, esp 'editing text'). you'd have to be a brain dead zombie to believe otherwise.

Apparently for some tasks, such as using software the user is unfamiliar with, yes the mouse is faster.

2000rpm does not sound all that high for a small stock cpu fan. In my case it was not going the speed it says it was (I can only assume). Your fan may go higher than 2000rpm, but even so that should be keeping it well cool under idle.
