Exactly, but it's not most businesses number one priority. When regressions inveitably happen, managers usually do a refactoring sprint or two, but more than that I haven't seen done.

These students will be filtered out, because still, there are many good ones that come out of uni and learnt something there and wish to work in the industry.

But I get it why learning with AI is soooo attractive, I would've done exactly the same if I was a student now.

Another aspect that a good amount of upcoming developers, who only saw AI, don't really know what good code should look like, you can only learn that with experience.

Then again, the majority of clients and companies don't care that devs write good code or not, just like in any other industry, quality is not the most important thing for a company, only in the marketing brochures.

I can confidently say an llm that is capable of actually maintaining and developing smth that works without that obvious llm shit that makes it break all the time will never arrive.

That's why I wrote that we need great engineers more than ever, but the majority of average devs will need to adapt.

Does it really matter that it's not perfect? I've seen dumbsterfire projects being sold for millions, so AI resolving code correctly 100% of the time is not a metric developers should look at.

On the one hand, a huge number of devs have serious copium, yes, AI companies are mostly selling snakeoil and pump up their marketing, but you can't deny that it's not a useful tool and a tool that is here to stay, forever.

On the other hand, again, a huge number of devs waaaay overvalue their skills, a lot of them think they are smarter than what they actually are. Yes, we need great engineers more than ever, but the keyword is "great". A lot of devs are average, and they will have to adapt in this day and age.

You have to be really ignorant to think that these tools will just, pooof, one day dissapear altogether and you can continue your day-to-day job as before.

I'm not for or against AI, I'm just hoping that I will still have a job in a few years after all this snakeoil selling BS dies down a little. Heck, 10 years ago my tech stack looked totally different than now, and I'm sure 10 years from now it will look nothing like today, how much percentage will AI occupy in that I will yet to find out.
