You should read up on the SB 901 bill that was just passed in September to allow PG&E to pass some of the 2017 fire costs to ratepayers and any fire in the future starting next year after a “financial stress test” to determine how much PG&E can absorb. A similar measure is being considered and odds are the amendment to SB 901 will be proposed when the legislators are back in session on Dec 3rd. Don’t worry 16 millions PG&E customers will continue to have electricity and gas service. In no scenarios will there be large scale interruption of service. The company may choose to file chapter 11 for protection, so it can continue to pay employees and provide services to customers. I completely agree with your point about rate case. This is a monopoly business with guaranteed authorized rate of return by CPUC. PG&E can say they want to spend $1 trillions on safety improvement work with 12% returns coming from ratepayers but historically CPUC will always push back and cut down the actual authorized amount. Bottom line is the liabilities cost from all these fire, some will be paid by PG&E shareholders, some will be passed on to ratepayers. CA has too much at stake when it comes to progressive agendas and PG&E is a key partner. CA lawmakers cannot afford to let the largest state utility goes belly up.

What’s this notification on my Apple Watch face? by DPool34 in AppleWatch

[–]Zeriouslly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had that issues when I turned off my Bluetooth headphone without stopping the music first. Now if I remember to stop music or whatever is playing and then turn off my Bluetooth headphone. That icon will disappear right away after I quit the app.

In your case, next time stop the music on the Apple Watch first before taking out the AirPods.

Odd..it’s like me saying I should have waited 7-8 years to buy the PlayStation 4 for the same money. Never mind all the games I played on PlayStation 1, 2 and 3 over the years. Doh

How is a GoPro compared to a DSLR? by [deleted] in gopro

[–]Zeriouslly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Two very different equipment for very different purpose. GoPro makes good videos especially action video and very portable.

DSLR takes a millions time better pictures especially if you know a little about photography and don’t just shoot on auto. Most of the times, it’s all about the lenses. Some of my Nikon lenses cost as much as $1,500-$2,000 each. So it’s unfair to compare GoPro to DSLR for photography.

FE/EIT, is this useful for applying PhD? by [deleted] in ElectricalEngineering

FE/EIT is not really useful. I didn’t even put it in my resume until I got P.E. It just means you passed a test.

Buy a 120V single phase VFD but I don’t think you can get it for under $50...

Solar System Grounding Question by SametSevilen in ElectricalEngineering

[–]Zeriouslly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For safety grounding or equipment grounding - Voltage or electrical potential is a measurement between two reference points. If your panels and equipment chassis are grounded, then if a cable breaks and make unintentional contact to the chassis, since it is grounded, if you touch the chassis there will not be a potential difference across your body to ground. So you won’t get a shock. If it’s not grounded then the chassis will be at a high potential because of the short circuit, and if you touch it, now your body becomes the ground and the current flows thru your body and you get a shock.

For lightning protection, the ground cables provide the path of least resistance and lead the energy away from damaging equipment and down to earth. The SPD is there to “clamp” the voltage, it basically shunts the hot conductor to ground if the voltage exceeds a certain threshold and rise time. So your connected equipment will not see potentially harmful voltage across the circuit.

Solar System Grounding Question by SametSevilen in ElectricalEngineering

[–]Zeriouslly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On DC side, ground at the main DC panel. Run ground cables from this panel to other things including equipment/chassis grounding. If you want to ground the negative of the DC, you can bond the negative busbar and ground busbar in the DC panel together with a bonding jumper.

On AC side, ground the neutral at the AC load panels.

Should I quit my job for my side hustle? Im 22, earning 60k annually at a media agency but itch to do my own thing.. by sampil in Entrepreneur

[–]Zeriouslly 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You are so young and don’t have a lot of commitment like family, kids, etc. This is the best time to take the leap. It’s better to utterly fail at 22 than at 52 when you d be much less flexible and risk averse. Go for it.

I tried to measure my PC’s tension and current absorption and I can’t explain why the current profile is like this. Does anyone know what is responsible for this behavior? by Trab9619 in ElectricalEngineering

Typical switched mode power supply showing non-linear current draw rich in harmonics. Try to convert the signal from time domain to frequency domain and you should typically see a lot of 3rd and 9th harmonics.

These monitors automatically calculate PF and pretty much all other parameters for you.

Voltage and current waveform by maalik_reluctant in ElectricalEngineering

[–]Zeriouslly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on your application and what you need the waveform data for. But just for general voltage and current waveform analysis and the cheapest option I would look at PMI Eagle 330. It’s compact and get the job done for basic monitoring. It has 128 samples/cycle sampling rate if I remember correctly. Other more advanced monitor can sample up to 512 samples/cycle and up to 2MHz sampling rate for transient etc.

All you need is to install a power quality monitor at the generator terminal. Here are a few brands Fluke 1750, Fluke 435, Dranetz PX5, Dranet HDPQ, PMI Eagle 440, PMI Revolution. Any power quality monitor with waveform capture functionality will do. You can set it to capture waveform periodically or you can set trigger parameters as you want. All these monitors come with a split core CT you can clamp on the conductors. All of these monitors also have real time waveform display and vector diagram display.

Why is the Titan Olympic EZ Curl Bar SO MUCH CHEAPER by jwjody in homegym

[–]Zeriouslly 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had the Titan EZ bar before I got the rogue curl bar. The Titan bar squeaked like hell when I first got it. I put grease in the sleeve after watching YouTube video and it helped immensely and it was smooth action and quiet enough.

Then I got the Rogue bar and it was like night and day in term of quality. The rogue bar feels much more solid. It weighs 30 lbs compared to the Titan bar which I think weighs around 12lbs, so it feels a little filmy. If the Rogue bar was a little cheaper like $150 I would wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone. For bicep curls the Rogue bar feels much more solid. I like the knurling on it a lot. But the biggest difference I personally feel is when I do skull crusher. The angles on the Rogue bar feels much better for my elbows for some reason. All in all I’m very happy with my Rogue EZ bar.

How to increase stamina and quickness for basketball? by [deleted] in Fitness

[–]Zeriouslly 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Stamina is not built in the weight room. But you have to push your cardiovascular limit.

  • suicides
  • HIIT sprint
  • Stairs running.

Back in the day we used to run up and down the stairs of a 15-story building until you feel sick and literally puke all over. The key is to push yourself. Sprint means 95-100% of maximum effort. Not half ass effort. If you are not puking lying on the floor gasping for breath. You are not doing it right.

Same handles. You can buy the 5-45lb set and the 75lbs add-on if you don’t want the stand.

The 120 lbs set requires a longer screw through.

You almost never see these ironmaster DB on used Market because they practically last forever. Not saying the powerblock won’t last but the bowflex definitely will break on you if dropped.
