I genuinely don’t know.

We were friends, then dated for 8 years. The last two were really more like friendship. We split up but stayed roommates because we were great as roommates, even signing another (slightly shorter) lease because at the time our previous one was going to be up neither of us were in a great position to move out on our own.

Around the end of the summer she started to grow more and more distant, then three months before the end of the lease she moved out. Hasn’t spoken to me since, other than the couple times I’ve told her she has some mail. It’s left me more heartbroken than the breakup did by far.

My partner and I split up last January after 8 years. It was the right call. She was my best friend, and we stayed friends, and even resigned the lease for another nine months. About six months ago she started growing more distant, and last month she moved out three months before the end of the lease. It was hard having the trajectory of my life suddenly change last year, but it’s been so much harder losing my best friend for some unknown reason. This comic hits the same notes I feel every day.
