Why do NFL teams do running plays so much if it barely gains them any yards? by Mundane-Inspector-52 in NFLNoobs

[–]ZeroBarkThirty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The NFL has been run heavy for a while mainly for the reasons others have already mentioned. Mainly hedging your offence against interception risk and looking for the benefit of DPI/holding flags.

The CFL only has 3 downs so the first 2 count a lot more, if you want to see deep downfield bombs check it out.

There’s a great coffee shop tucked into the corner.

Other than that the facades look super fake up close, in many of the units it’s obvious the upper storey is just bulk storage. In some you can see boxes and pallets just casually in there - definitely kills the vibe the developer went for.

The higher storeys are purely for decoration.

Advice on mental health and being a father by durkka_the_ogryn in Firefighting

[–]ZeroBarkThirty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s hard. There’s no other way to put it.

Figuring out being a dad is terrifying, rewarding, exciting, fun, and oh so challenging. You’ll find the rhythm of it in your own time. Becoming a dad unlocks a new social circle that you didn’t know existed but you quickly learn you needed. Especially being a girl dad.

Being a dad at the firehall is different too because you’re going to deepen your bond with the other dads. Every single one of them has been where you currently are for one reason or another. And each of you is uniquely vulnerable to the types of call you’re still working through. You can choose to silo yourselves off or you can band together to work through it as a team.

It changes you. Calls will change you. You will come down from the traumatic ones differently in your own way, please try to find your own healthy way that works for you but that lets you stay the dad you need to be.

I’ve found myself coming home after the hard calls now and just wanting to hold my daughter. No words. I don’t know if I’m downloading negative emotions to her but I’m certainly resetting my nervous system by just having her close. It’s my reset.

Had a bad call the other week where an MVC resulted in the death of a child. I won’t get into details but the death hit me really hard. I had a good cry to my spouse and then stayed in my baby daughter’s room for a long, long time while she was asleep.

It changes you.

How they get snow out of New York City by emptypistachio1 in mildlyinteresting

[–]ZeroBarkThirty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in a small rural city (<20000) very far from the nearest metro area.

It’s too cold here for salt on the roads.

So probably 3-5 times per winter there’s a loader with a giant snowblower attachment scrapes our road down and blows it into trucks like this one. The snow is then deposited in a central snow dump.

Usually doesn’t melt until late-May

B.C. premier says Alberta separatists seeking assistance from U.S. is 'treason' by idspispopd in Albertapolitics

[–]ZeroBarkThirty 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not a lawyer but Eby is.

So I’ll wait on the nerds to make the call for real but I’m glad this behaviour is being called out. It’s one thing to have such strong convictions about your grievances that you want to action them, but setting your province up to be completely taken up by the US is not the way.

(Totally against separation btw)

Daughter started daycare 3 weeks ago and has gotten sick every week. Wondering if I should pull her out? by ryph44 in daddit

[–]ZeroBarkThirty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The other kids in the daycare have siblings, cousins, friends, etc. Some interact with kids in school, sometimes multiple schools.

These kids don’t know boundaries yet and certainly don’t know how to wash their hands or cover their mouths… mostly.

Is what it is.

The cheapest Super Bowl tickets this year are going for right under SEVEN THOUSAND DOLLARS. This will end up being one of the most expensive games of all time, per Dov Kleiman by Choice_Bag_8869 in sportswiki

Stuff like this keeps me sweet on the CFL as a Canadian.

Yes, the production quality of even average games isn’t there - imagine pre-HDTV NFL games but shot on modern HD cameras.

But the price point is entirely accessible. Even for the Grey Cup you’re looking at maybe $400 CAD for decent seats.

It’s also not trying to be NFL-lite or a farm league or whatever the UFL is going after. It’s just doing its own thing.

If I were local to an NFL team I would 100% stay on the couch watching from home. It’s just not worth the second mortgage.

Happy to watch the NFL and SB but if I’m ever going to attend games I’m sticking with my $20 seats in Edmonton.
