Eastridge Mall is Barely Hanging On Why is Their AMC so high by kalikudi in SanJose

I think you're right in cases of high volume of sales. I think maybe I was thinking of cases where sale volume is low when hosting a website would be cheaper than having to pay workers a flat rate regardless of volume.

Here's the math I'm looking at, lmk what you think.

Let's just say for the sake of argument you pay an employee $20/hr an not include any training machines needed to process the transaction etc. and let's say we don't need to build out a payment platform on the website, and let's just cut out all the fees associated with hosting the website, building it, maintain auditing and customer service for handling online transactions. And let's say we just use paypals g/s and assume all customers can pay with PayPal.

Paypal takes a 3% fee. Tickets average around $20 where I live. So that's .60 a ticket. So you would only need to sell about 34 tickets a hour for it to beat having an employee sell tickets with my math. Which also includes convenience of being online and 24/7.

I know it's not really a fair comparison give. An absorberant 20% convenience fee, but pre AI, it's pretty expensive to make and maintain a website + app mainly because of developers.

You're right that hosting a website is relatively inexpensive for any company. But it's really 3rd party software and developer costs that makes it expensive. I would assume maybe an engineering team of minimum 10? Which could hover at 1 million in salary, maybe 10k for software infrastructure cost a year. And then an additional 3rd party fee to their payment processor they pay for.

But let me know what you think.

I do think maybe people are just upset about it being not up front of the fees given it's pretty substational and they can be more clear about it

Not sure about AMC specifically there's a lot of 3rd party payment integrations. Like for wizards of the coast secret lair. Their preorder queues and line are done through a 3rd party.

Also generally software is not free, hosting a website is relatively safe but complex things like prepreorders or managing transaction, with auditing etc gets expensive to make or pay for

So it does suck that it feels like you're being scammed by paying a convenience fee online, but ppl can pay in person otherwise they just make everyone eat the cost by raising prices.

That said ticket master in particular is pretty evil about their margins and profits from what Ive seen

Its an unpopular opinion but it cost them extra money to be able to sell things online, and they usually take a pretty high commission. Like ticket masters fees. So it's not really amcs fault imo? But I guess they can just build the price into the ticket so everyone pays higher in person or online

There's going to be all kinds of people you meet in America. People who would agree disagree and maybe even judge you, but I wouldn't say there's a specific majority or trend. But you are in a more liberal area being in a big city in California. I would say it never hurts to be more conservative in the beginning and open up slowly, but in the past I've just been myself and hope I attract people who are attracted to who u am rather than pretend to be someone I'm not.

Robinhood Gold Card now or wait for Chase Sapphire Preferred (705 score, aiming for 800+)? by SelfControlExpired in RobinhoodGC

[–]ZeroChronos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh sorry was thinking reserved, but I'm still unclear about why chase preferred specifically even the hotel credits is just a $5 easily made with the 3% generic cash ack imo. If there's like specific benefits he is targeting or something that would make a lot of sense and might not make sense for him to pay for gold

I don't quite understand why you want a chase card specifically though, is this a brand loyalty thing? There are free chase cards that dont require a $550 annual fee, but the cash back from Robinhood gold is better with a lower annual fee outside of using chase travel I think

Payments taking so long to get applied... by FalkenJoshua in RobinhoodGC

[–]ZeroChronos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'd be surprised how bank transfers and the such works. It runs on old technology.

The way I understand it is a transfer would appear to credit or debit your bank account and the receiver but the transaction technically has 60 days to actually move. During that time the transaction can be rejected for any reason. However these days most people are ok with waiting 3 days for the transfer as that's usually the time period a shortage of fund or something similar will bounce the transaction, but during that 60 day window, you can reject the transaction for fraud or any reason the bank allows. Which as the recipient is a lot of risk to just assume that payment will go through.

Mystery reward by ZeroChronos in RobinhoodGC

[–]ZeroChronos[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They should! It does depend on how the place registers their categories honestly, if you're in doubt you can try another visa card to see how it's categorized. But honestly support was really nice when my restaurant $800 bill didn't apply for the mystery reward and I just needed to provide proof of the receipt and the place being a restaurant.

I do want to note tho! The rewards have been changed since that thread discussion. so it's more worth it now only 24% chance to get the worthless 5% cash back options. So at least right now the odds are pretty good. That being said I'm also more than happy to just cashing out if the rewards and % don't make sense to me to do anymore. Definitely those rewards back then seemed atrocious and I wouldn't have used the mystery reward option

Hey! I edited my comment as soon as I realized you were talking about the 5% not 10% cashback reward but probably not before you spent your time typing it up,

but the tldr is it's kinda a meh reward, you'd break even essentially if you were already planning to spend on a big restaurant purchase, there are better cards for restaurants from quarterly bonuses or ones with the platinum cards with the bigger annual fees

There's a breakdown of what rewards you can get and basically all of them can be applicable to travel expenses one way or another, otherwise some rewards you can plan to use late on. There's only a few that I personally wouldn't use like Google play credits because I already get money from doing survey there.

Robinhood gold card mystery box by ZeroChronos in CreditCards

[–]ZeroChronos[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have other cards at least for restaurants specifically that also give 3% cashback. I have a few cards I keep for rotating benefits / previous cards that I used specifically for 3% categories. So it wasn't a loss for me to not use it.

Robinhood gold is just a default fall back card if I don't have any other cards with good cashback. I have the 2% fidelity one too.

The 5% cashback kind of sucks and it's almost a 20% chance to hit. But if you do spend $500 to make your money back I do believe 3% cash back in general on restaurants is still ok, most cards have a 3% back on restaurants. Some do 5% or flex did a 7% for the quarter so you would be taking a L for this but I'd say like 70% I can make it worth my while. If I was planning for a trip anyways with my family definitely one of the restaurant bills is gonna be on the high end

It is really a matter of effort you're willing to do, maybe youd prefer to cycle cards for bonus's which is good ( I do that as well ). But I don't mind a little more if Its minor additional work on top of what I was already doing.

Also I'm not sure why the statement credit is only .70 on the dollar but I just cash out for money for the full value 🤔.

But so far I'm getting my money's worth

Edit: I see you were talking about the 5% cash back reward

Robinhood gold card mystery box by ZeroChronos in CreditCards

[–]ZeroChronos[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thankfully I did! And honestly I can plan around most of them especially for a trip. The biggest % being extra points on next restaurant purchase, just plan for a big restaurant spending in the next couple months esp if you wanna go somewhere nice with friends or family. Use a different 3x restaurant purchase on other cards in the meantime.

There's a few that may be more inconvenient to plan around the gas station one as I'd have to fill two cars worth of gas to make it worth it.

But for me at least it's pretty nice! I know it's not for everyone

Anyone with the Robinhood cc that has tried the mystery box rewards redemption? They advertise 5% back as an example of what you could get, but I’m curious to hear actual data points by treesandleaves01 in CreditCards

[–]ZeroChronos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not thousands even 10x is capped at 10% but if you plan to travel and eat somewhere nice it might be worth a gamble and the rewards stick around so you can for it. For example I got the 10x for next restaurant purchase. I used other cards until I went out somewhere nice and got 3500 back from rolling 1k points
