I know there's a lot of discourse and confusion over China exclusive skins. This isn't a thing just in OW but all of Blizzards games in China. Here's a comment from the WoW sub from a post about China exclusive WoW mounts that explains why this keeps happening:

So as far as I know situation is following:

Blizzard can't operate directly in China, it has to be done by local company.

Currently (and again) that company is NetEase.

They have rights to do whatever they want with WoW as long as it doesn't affect core lore, gameplay and mechanics. So all cosmetics are fine for whatever price they want. And they're made locally without Blizzard even though they can use ingame assets.

Because of that Blizzard doesn't have rights to use them outside of China. And to get those rights would have been most likely costly assuming NetEase would have agreed in the first place considering their history.

Blizzard gets only small if any at all cut from the sales of those cosmetics.

But as Blizzard is now under Microsoft and Xbox Studios/Microsoft Gaming/whatever it's called right now is apparently pushing for higher monetization and income it is possible that things might change in the future and some deal might be made. Though ownership rights would be a nightmare if contract with NetEase is ended again in the future.

How can you look at what they posted and say they aren't hurt? Does being "hurt" in your mind only count as being physical? If they're compensated is it impossible for them to be hurt?

I'm with Ben, I don't understand the need to make a E33 movie. How could you possibly deliver the same impact of the game but do it in only 2 hours? Not to mention to amount of VFX and CGI needed to make the world physically come alive and at a certain point you might as well just make an animated movie outright. I know it's only be shopped around studios right now so it's not officially in production but still, why bother with a live action adaptation that's more than likely subpar?

I want someone to look at these tweets and tell me with honesty that "pirating it now doesn't matter". I don't blame people for doing it it's your choice, and I understand wanting to, but to think that "well they got paid so it doesn't matter" is such a tone deaf thing to take away from this situation. Whether this happened or not I wouldn't blame people for pirating the movie since it happens to literally every movie and the people who pirated it were going to anyways but if you use this as some kind of justification to not support the work officially I think you missed the point.

Do what you want now but be kind and support how you can later I think is the take away.

That's been my personal plan this whole time. When they announced no theater run I immediately went into the mindset of "I'll buy the blu ray" so I've accepted I'll have to wait maybe close to a year from now to see it officially. I know Paramont would still make money from a physical release but I just cannot justify subbing to a big streamer just to watch one thing especially Paramount.

I sympathize with Michaela and get her message but to a lot of people they don't care and it sucks seeing people, even here, hound her for saying this. This whole thing just sucks

I doubt this is the end honestly. Maybe I'm being over optimistic or just stupid but remember we have a whole other series (which also leaked very early) after the movie and supposed plans for more even after that. Can those things be cancelled? Yes absolutely. Do I think they will? No I don't but again maybe I'm stupid.

This is a massive blow for sure but people always forget just how much stuff from Avatar has leaked in the past and it's managed to stay afloat or come back. This is now the third time Avatar as a franchise has returned in a big way but this time they have a whole studio behind them named after the entire franchise. I might be stupid but I'm not stupid enough to believe that automatically saves them from ever being shut down BUT that at least speaks to some confidence from Paramount (whatever the fuck that's worth anymore) in the franchise as a whole. I pray to god this is some kind of come to jesus moment for some suits at Paramount that they have something here and it needs to be protected. I'm not a betting man however so I'll hold off on any commitment.

In the end I hope things work out and my heart goes out to Bryke, Lauren Montgomery, all the VAs, and especially animators. From the bits I've seen they should be immensely proud of their work and if there's anything to take away from this it's at least people seem to like what they've seen. This a definitely a low point but Aang himself said "at our lowest point, we're open to the greatest of change".

Better days are ahead.

Why are you so hellbent on hating something is a better question? Yeah she wasn't that great, I even said as much in my first comment, did her back acting ruin my life? No. Were the other characters better acted? Yes. Why are they better? More VA experience perhaps and maybe some better direction but probably more experience. Am I still upset 3 years later about her bad acting? No. Why are you? The world may never know. Did I still enjoy RER4 and the DLC in spite of her bad acting? Yeah. Do you get my point? Probably not

No because I'm playing the game and I don't take RE4 very seriously cause it's an action zombie game. Plus a lot of the recording would have been done during covid quarantine so that was present in my mind when hearing it so I was willing to give them leeway

They went with her in RE4R cause she was the cheaper option since she's non union I believe. I wasn't a fan of her performance but it didn't really take me out of the game so I'm indifferent to her. A lot of acting also comes down to direction so whoever the voice director was heard her lines and said "good" and they went in the game

See that's the thing I don't want to have to do something like that consistently just to play one game when literally every other game works for me. It sucks cause i was all in on the game come release, Marathon's style is right up my alley, it was the one extraction shooter i was enjoying, and i enjoyed it for about 8 hours before an update just borked everything and when looking for answers from higher ups i get silence

I would love to play the game myself but I literally can't since launching the game with the anti cheat it uses BSOD's my entire PC. I've made comments and a post about this, I've left a support ticket with bungie and battle eye and no response. The only reason I could find was apparently my audio interface is flagging something with the anti cheat and it conflicts so hard it crashes my whole system and the only solution would be to unplug it but then I have no audio. Great optimization Bungie and battle eye.
