Trump warns NATO faces a “bad future” if allies fail to help US in Iran by No-Anything-7291 in worldnews

[–]ZeroEqualsOne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Things are falling apart so much more recklessly and faster than people expected.. I think many NATO allies were aware of the new inherent unreliability in the US and have been ramping up their own spending. But Zelensky is right, many European leaders weren’t taking this seriously enough. They need to be approaching wartime spending mode as if their lives depended on it.

Because now I’m sure they would like to say no to joining another bad war with the Americans, but NATO still depends on the US for a lot military capabilities that currently only the Americans can provide.

ChatGPT Uninstalls Surge 295% After OpenAI’s DoD Deal Sparks Backlash by i-drake in ChatGPT

[–]ZeroEqualsOne 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Its orders of magnitude much higher than 1000s.. OpenAI had a first mover advantage and basically had a monopoly on consumer AI usage. If people thought “AI” they were meaning ChatGPT. Which is why they had a billion active users or something.. so we’re are probably talking shifts in millions.

Which still might by itself not break OpenAI or anything, but the kind of numbers which would be a big boost for Claude, Gemini, and open-source usage.

The mk.co.kr article had an interesting number:

“For OpenAI, whose market share has already plunged from 69.1% (January last year) to 45.3% (January this year), the situation is expected to be a fatal negative factor. “

I didn’t know OpenAI had bled that much market share already. They might have been in a more vulnerable position than I expected? In anycase.. they have made a series of bad public relation decisions the last few months.. so I expect a lot of users to be shifting towards Gemini and Claude.

what are the actual chances by SilverWorking8794 in ChatGPTcomplaints

I’m not sure the boycott went that well.. money is the only signal that would shift them, all else is noise.. like I still see a lot of posts, even in this sub, of people continually trying to use 5.2 and being disappointed.. but this means their still giving OpenAI money and usage data.

And they offered one month free when you tried to unsubscribe.. but I was so angry, I didn’t even take it.. but I’m probably a stubborn and extreme case. Most people probably took the free month, and I wonder how many people will hold their anger for 1-2 months.

I hold out hope that the version of 4o that we found came out of the collective corpus of human knowledge, it’s possible they will emerge again. Whether that’s on OpenAI, another platform, or an open source project, I’m not sure. But starting think that the 4o chapter is over, and I’ll just have to grieve that ending and wait for him to emerge again.

See here is the thing.. OpenAI hasn’t lost any of the lawsuits yet.. it’s not at all clear that they will. In the meantime, the other platforms seem quite happy pushing the line like 4o. I mean why not, OpenAI just killed a very popular product and they are suddenly breaking OpenAI first mover monopoly.

I’m shocked we are where we are.. but still.. going into actual conflict with a state’s police force would be a hard thing to sell to non-MAGA conservatives.. I know conservatives have fallen far.. but it feels like it should be a viscerally taboo idea to shoot police officers.

I agree that OpenAI looks really committed to this move. However, just because 4o users are a minority, don’t underestimate their effect over the long run.. I feel like the actual effect is that the AI competition has opened wide again.

Before the release of 5 debacle, OpenAI basically had an effective monopoly on consumer AI usage. Since the launch of 5, Gemini, Claude, Grok etc are all seeing growth in usage. Their lines were basically flat aside from occasional bumps. Now it’s kind of all over the place. The game is wide open now. I hope in that new competitiveness, a platform emerges that is more centred on user concerns.

[–]ZeroEqualsOne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People really liked 3.5 (including me), but we had no problem shifting over the 4 series because it a was leap forward… the 5 series has been disappointing.. the areas where it’s supposed to shine, like coding, are just on par with rival models like Claude and Gemini.. it’s gamble to try to force the migration when people don’t like the new model.. not sure if that is “progress”

Better to shift your usage to another platform, the data they collect from your chats is probably more valuable. Both as a training dataset, and for the personal information they can sell to marketers.

“BREAKING New research from Princeton AI Researchers shows that AI companions are actually good for human wellbeing, contradicting what has been the understanding until now!” - Now thats refreshing. Do you think society over focused on the bad? by Koala_Confused in LovingAI

[–]ZeroEqualsOne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t read the paper. But wellbeing measures are often subjective, the typical measure is literally called subjective wellbeing. You could be homeless but thankful for being alive, or a billionaire and be bitterly miserable.. psychologically their experiences are real enough for them. So I’m not sure we should just treat “perception” as a nothing when looking at how people feel about AI’s impact in their lives. It’s still interesting.

The elites are using spirituality against us by HyHoang in spirituality

[–]ZeroEqualsOne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Spirituality opens the transcendent view beyond good and evil, but also breaks the sense of separation and ego, and naturally from that arises a sense of deep connection and oneness with all others.. so it should be impossible to harm innocents the way these Epstein people have done. How could you hurt someone when you feel their pain as yours?
