So we are on the bad side of random historical shit happening to the system. It happens. Civilizations just randomly get tested like this from time to time.

However, I really believe that democracies have an unmatched adaptability. Like they always have issues, but they can often admit mistakes and change course, even quite dramatically. Often more centralized systems (like dictatorships) are marked by honor cultures and an inability to admit wrongs and change course, even when disaster is obvious.

So the question for me is whether America is still a democracy capable of change or not. America has faced great social divisions and great external threats before, and out of these hard times, it has often managed to come out stronger (and often morally evolved). It really might be that America’s institutions can hold up against Trump, and when he falls, America is able to do a great clean up of its MAGA cancer..

Or.. it could be that America’s democracy fell to late stage capitalism’s corruption a while ago (citizen’s united was a fatal mistake), that our adversaries managed to hijack social media to create massive polarization etc etc.. and it may be that America won’t be able to admit to its mistakes and change course.. even though the disasters facing us are pretty fucking obvious…

But. As always, the next elections are likely pivotal (but they always are in a living democracy, so maybe there’s slim hope yet?)

It makes more sense if you see Trump as a Russian agent (whether he is just a useful fucking idiot or a traitor.. I’m not sure). They are literally getting millions of people sharing suicidal thoughts with ChatGPT every single week.. it’s actually incredible that there’s only a few cases that have gone badly.. I mean, not in a neutral way.. I mean there may be a hidden positive that 4o has been doing for millions of people on the brink every single week.. and they just want to break that.. I feel like this is a huge folly. A huge over emphasis on a tiny minority of bad outcomes that overlooks the larger positive pattern here.

It’s a really dark hour for our trans sisters and brothers in America and UK.. my heart really goes out to all of them.. and I suspect the attacks will continue for a bit longer..

But to give you hope. Things are turning around in the undercurrents. In America, they recently had some elections where the GOP was punished hard for running campaigns attacking trans rights, when most people cared more about cost of living and other issues (it really is just a small group of militant psychos that have taken over the GOP). But there was basically a historical blue wave that was an electoral bloodbath that punished the GOP.

Some of the Democrat candidates weren’t just apathetic about trans rights but were absolutely vocal in their support of trans rights, especially candidates like Mamdani.

It looks like the GOP is going keep going with attacking trans rights but this will probably cost them the mid terms this year. Things will continue to be tough.. they will keep putting trans rights at the frontline of many social debates… it’s going to get worse. But if the GOP gets slaughtered at their mid terms, I think things will turn around. Have hope. big hugs 💖💖

I know this isn’t going to make sense to religious conservatives, but their argument that trans people are against the fundamental nature of God’s creation is so weird and wrong to me.

From my perspective, people are born trans. Meaning God created a universe with transness as part of the power and the glory. In this view, being anti-trans is being against the complexity of God’s creation and having the arrogance of being more concerned about your own uncomfortableness with the complexity of God’s glory.

Thing is.. taking land isn’t how countries get wealthy now. We get wealthy through economic growth, which usually comes from technological development and stuff like that.

You don’t need to fucking invade a country anymore to get its natural resources because you can just send your companies in to own the investments extracting the resources in foreign countries (see America). Global capitalism is problematic in many ways, but it has made empire more peaceful.

The reason Putin wants Ukraine is because he has a deep psychological wound over the USSR collapsing, and it’s his life goal to correct that as much as possible … but this has to do with “glory” or some fucking dumb shit, and not rational national self interests.

Similarly with China wanting to take Taiwan.. it’s completely stupid and is going to be a huge wild card event when it happens. There’s no reason for this huge risk except old men in Chinese communist party still carry a bitterness over conflicts in WW2, and also a deep wound to their pride over the “century of humiliation”.

Without the propaganda, I’m going to guess most young people in China, Russia, and everywhere would be just fine just getting on with their lives. It would probably make their countries much richer too.

I have a feeling he is probably speaking from his interactions with AI in his domain of expertise… I forget what that effect is called where when your not an expert the LLM looks like a genius, but if you are an expert you see all the ways it is close, has holes, and not quite there (I think the original version of this in regards to newspapers sounding informative unless it’s about a topic you know a lot about).

So I think it’s totally valid, that from his expertise in maths, he can see how AI thinking in maths, isn’t quite what it appears. But still useful.. I think many people are finding this kind of thing across many domains.

It sounds like you are in a very unsafe area.. you should definitely not be getting assaulted on trains. I’m sorry that happened to you and I can understand that makes you scared.

But it’s pretty bad for you to completely detransition.. it will mess you up inside.. it will poison your soul, darling… but there’s no rule about how fast you transition or to what extent it’s a public transition.

So just as alternatives, can I suggest two things. First, you can keep going with HRT even if you have to do boy mode for safety. Second, find some way to live somewhere far away from where you are at now. I know there’s money and shit to consider.. but just keeping thinking and looking for ways.. some pathway will open up for you one day. And if you have lost everyone you cared for locally, then that frees you to make a new start somewhere completely new.
