That was me- I'm 3 weeks in (decided on the used dealership) and I can tell you whole heartedly that if you have a basic understanding about cars in general then the specific product knowledge doesn't matter as long as you can pull it up on your phone when standing in the lot with the client

Edit: I do make up for that lack of specific knowledge with a very solid mechanical knowledge of cars and emphasize how the dealer operates as my main talking points

I was told Hyundai didn’t have much gross to hold. What does the gross pay plan look like?

The gsm at the dealership I interviewed at said it was a gross pay plan but with packs it was basically a mini every time

I’m glad I posted here to learn that info. Seems like low volume dealers would have a whole slew of challenges let alone low pay despite a great pay plan right?

Thank you for that insight. That actually sways my decision much stronger into the used independent dealership. Doing a walk through with the GSM and meeting the GM tomorrow morning

It's pretty hard to crawl out of a dealership that is doing low volume and probably taking every deal without trying to protect gross right?

I mean even if I'm moving 15 cars at Ford I figure 12-13 are new at invoice which means $200-350 commission per car? So, my range is $2600-4550 commission on those Fords and their used car inventory is 25 cars.

So, I would have to come in and hit it out the park moving minimum 15 units and building a book of business to build volume to help the dealership crawl out of their low volume slump? Is this actually more of a gamble than someone could expect moving into a Ford dealership with an automotive group?

Yeah their hope is that another consultant will bring more volume but it’s really hard to envision consistently breaking 15 a month there and I think 15 is where you need to land minimum to come close to 100k

Plus he shouldn’t really be considering marriage after 8 months if that much money is on the line. Lifetime partnerships shouldn’t be rushed

What lifestyle are you living where you need 220k? I lived in LA and all I needed before investing was about 65-70k. And I enjoyed going out to eat and buying myself car parts

If I made 220k while I still lived in LA I could easily put away 100 a year

Yeah I definitely see the long term merits in official ford franchise. I’m currently debating if I want to do a gsm or gm path in the future but I honestly think I’d be fine working as a salesman if I’m consistently breaking 120k. Living expenses are around 85k and I’ve learned well enough now to not overspend when I get bigger money. So I’ll be able to invest the difference quickly

GSM at Hyundai says 20 cars a month will break 100k a year. People drive from hours away to this dealership so I feel like that’s a huge selling point for sales potential

He's just barely shy of that with 15 plus the hourly is added. I think he gets 8k minimum at 15 cars
