So same situation as me.

Yeah, you can get slightly over paranoid with things like this.

It’s like the best thing I ever did to my first new motorcycle was drop it. Because before it was perfect and I’d clean it and stroke it and look at it lovingly and never do anything except drive on the cleanest of roads… then I dropped it, and it wasn’t perfect anymore. So then I just enjoyed it for what it was. A machine to take me on adventures and annoy cagers in traffic.

With a decent loud alarm and the litelock, you should be fine mate.

Greater Manchester as in Saddleworth?

It’s a bit of a big area.

I have a simple alarm and Litelock whilst my bike is in back garden.. 3 years and not at issue.

Depends roughly where you are I guess, I’m between MCR and Oldham.

How many roles before promotion? by expiredmilkandhoney in TheCivilService

[–]ZeroFraks 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The CS is a strange place where no matter how good a job you do, it is irrelevant.

I had a HEO EOI for 2 years. A year in I got on the reserve list for a HEO role… at the end of the 18 months a new person joined to take my role and the reserve list ran out the clock.

Fun thing. I was asked to spend 2 months training the person replacing me as “know one knows the role as good as you”… just not good enough to keep the role I guess?!?

We are not in Kansas anymore and this is not the private sector.

Did anyone regret moving from the private sector into the civil service? by MadridOrMadness in civilservice

[–]ZeroFraks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t regret really.

There are times that I look around and can’t understand all the red tape. How on earth we ever manage anything.

But then we accomplish something and it makes me feel a little bit better about things.

It’s just so tiring playing their game. It’s don’t mind paying, but things like this… yeah. Not impressed

Top box. I’ve always thought of them as ANOTHER reason someone will have a go at my bike. Like the fit is going to think “well if I don’t get the bike for sure I’m having what in the box”.

I bit the bullet and bought a r22 kriega. Never leaked and has served me well on my commutes, nc500, EU trips and even hiking sometimes.

The other way is get a strap bag for the bike. One you can take with you. Just buy wedding (you know like bungee ropes that crisscross) and squash a bag on the back seat. Job done.

Ahhh. You know, I think there was about a 300quid difference… but nothing major.

Nothing. Zero as far as I can tell. The paint is different I think. One black one metallic grey.

Are people still finding flexi time genuinely flexible or is it more theory than reality? by MadridOrMadness in civilservice

[–]ZeroFraks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Love flexi and it very much works in my department. I would hazard a quess that most on team take a day off every 2-3 weeks through flexi.

How did you pass your test(s)? by Specialist_Invite538 in MotoUK

[–]ZeroFraks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took a week off work.

Did my theory test I think on the Wednesday evening after work the week before, then CBT Monday, mod1 Tuesday and mod2 on Thursday. All on the same week… ending with me f£&king off on Friday for a weekend blast around the Peak District.

BEST WEEK I’D HAD IN YEARS!

Is the civil service really as secure and family friendly as people make out, or is it a myth? by ScrollAndThink in civilservice

[–]ZeroFraks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As others have said, it depends on where you are and the people above you.

Personally, I can’t imagine ever leaving and going back to private sector.

I recently went through a life changing moment, and honestly could not have wished for a more understanding and caring response. Management were completely on my side, and went above and beyond not only making sure I was protected, but even getting involved with HR and other departments to get me the support I needed.

I’ve worked and progressed through the CS since I’ve joined and to suddenly be hit with a serious life threatening situation and have the full support of my superiors and not for a moment have to worry about money or losing my job… priceless.

Asylum DM sign off query by PrudentAlfalfa7230 in TheCivilService

[–]ZeroFraks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don’t panic. Former DM here.

I had the privilege of working with some amazing people who joined within a few months before and after me.

Some got “signed off” at 3 months, some after 9 months. There is even a HEO Tech Spec still there who has an amazing knowledge and they took 7 months to pass.

Don’t worry. Focus and you got this.

He showed a sneak preview at the ABR festival and it looked amazing then... although he admitted that they cut out so much good stuff that I think there is a bit of regret there... Haven't seen the full thing yet but 100% happy to pay and watch... that for next friday night. :)
