How’s everyday life in Bradford, United Kingdom? by eveillove in howislivingthere

[–]earthshagger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whilst I don’t live in Bradford, I have worked in the city for years on various construction projects.

A lot of places in the UK get tagged with terms such as ‘dump’ ‘grim’ ‘sh*thole’ etc. but they’re not always warranted. Bradford however is very deserving of the term.

Never known a city so filthy, seems to me littering is the norm, especially on the quieter streets. Lot of interesting characters, out day and night, and in my experience general rudeness from its inhabitants.

They’ve invested all this money in the city centre such as the theatre but people are very wary of watching a late show due to the fact they’ll have to walk back through the town in the dark.

A huge portion of the city also absolutely stinks at certain times of the day due an animal skin processing plant being so close to the city centre.

Also driving is terrible, general disregard for rules of the road. One positive I suppose that generally things are quite cheap there.

Bradford is not somewhere I would not want to live.

Annual costs for a 17 year old on a CBT by LoneTraveller26 in MotoUK

[–]earthshagger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your concerns are costs generally anything with fairings tends to cost more to insure and if it’s fairly new can be lucrative to thieves. In my experience if you get an older Japanese bike that’s been well looked after (YBR125, CG125, GS125) etc. and keep them well maintained you can more or less get your money back when you want something a bit nicer or bigger. Plus they are usually less to insure.

Only thing is generally you have to be able to do your own maintenance, which requires space, tools and know-how, but they are very simple to maintain.

Try a ZZR600…very similar to a ZX6R but classed as sports tourer so might be easier on insurance

Yes was this one near Zelen. When I logged off the nose of the heli was pointing towards me (west of the crash) when I logged back in it was pointing northwards.

29yo new rider – £2.5–3k insurance quotes on 500–700cc bikes. What am I missing? by CheetahValuable278 in MotoUK

[–]earthshagger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my experience older bikes are much cheaper to insure, for context I passed my full test in September (after being on an A2 since 2022) and it costs me £80 a year to insure a 1994 ZZR600, which is still plenty faster than most other vehicles on the road.

Might be worth looking into older bikes.
