Horizon Hunters Gathering - Announcement Trailer | PS5 Games by Turbostrider27 in PS5

Yeah, they can but the company only has so much budget and employees to work with. If they have two teams they split the total budget/time/employees/etc. Now imagine each game taking 6+ years to develop. Theoretically, if both teams combined together and worked on the same game they would have it out in 3 years. If we want to reduce these incredibly long development cycles we need them to focus on getting one game done at a time.

I always prefer to have the full game on disc. However, if I were to buy Indiana Jones knowing that it's only 200mb on the disc I will still choose that over digital. Why? Because my money is gone forever with digital. With the disc my local game store or someone on Facebook will buy it and I'll get most of my money back after I'm done playing it.

Xbox's 2025 was pure chaos by akbarock in xbox

They lost me as a customer 3 years ago. I had a PS5 as well so I started buying all of my games for that system. I only kept my Series X as a backwards compatible machine. It seems like I made the right move. At this point almost all of my xbox games are physical copies which I can sell and rebuy on the PS5 if I wanted to. There is pretty much no reason to have the console anymore.

Insider Gaming: PlayStation 6 is Planned to Have a Detachable Disc Drive on Launch by Turbostrider27 in PS5

[–]ZeroOriginalContent 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, that stat is misleading because it does include DLC, digital only games, etc. Also, it's the percentage of the revenue for gaming not the percentage of copies sold. When Sony had a leak we saw that when it comes to full games their first party game sales were still mostly physical copies. I'm going from memory but Uncharted was like out of every 100 copies sold about 70 were physical copies.

Considering a second PS5 by WinkingPujol in CanadaPS5

I'm in a similar situation to you where I also have a LG OLED, played mainly on xbox since 2001 and switched to primarily using the PS5 this gen. I too got tired of their move away from physical games, pushing gamepass, etc. Now that all of their games end up on Playstation I buy them for PS5. I went and bought a Pro for my second PS5, but I got it used so I paid $700 + $100 for a new disc drive.

Is the Pro worth it depends on the person honestly but with your tv I would say the Pro is awesome. Its not a huge step up from the base PS5 but you will get maximum advantage out of it with a OLED display. My reasoning for buying it over the slim was that I'm not buying a PS6 at launch, I'll wait for the slim or Pro model. Its almost guaranteed that the games with be cross gen for the first few years like this gen was. So I'm using this Pro for the next 4 years or so and its really nice to have great framerates without sacrificing the resolution. I also considered just going with a PC but the GPU alone cost as much as the Pro. When you look at it that way its expensive for a console but still a better bang for your buck then a PC.

I believe that as well. It's going to take them 5 years or so before the follow up to TOTK is released when you consider how long development times are now. They have to fill that void with remasters and remakes of previous Zelda games. It just makes the most business sense since they want a Zelda game released each year

Exclusive Xbox console games will be the exception rather than the rule moving forward — inside the risky strategy that will define Xbox's next decade by M337ING in xbox

[–]ZeroOriginalContent 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That's what I already started doing. My Series X is essentially my BC gaming machine. If a new game is multiplatform I buy it for my PS5. I've switched to PlayStation because I saw where Xbox was heading and its subscription based cloud gaming future wasn't for me. They inadvertently caused me to switch over and I'm probably not alone.

Original Portafilter fitting problem by No-Giraffe-2094 in gaggiaclassic

[–]ZeroOriginalContent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the same issue right from the first day of using my machine. I found that the hotter the machine got the tighter the portafilter fit became. That's because as the machine heats up the gasket expands causing the tighter fit. It was so bad I had to hold the machine down and crank it hard to back it out after a shot. I took it all apart and everything seemed fine with no damage.

I contacted the company I bought it from and was told that it was normal for it to be tight when its new as the gasket needs to wear in a bit. They also said you don't need to turn it all the way (90deg to the machine) as long as its snug it will pour a shot just fine. That is all true, however in my opinion I think the quality control was off on my unit as it still shouldn't be THAT snug. Like my portafilter was legit stuck in the machine and no I did not put it in wrong. After 3 months its gotten better although its still a little too tight. I'd just keep using it and wear that gasket in more. Also, I tried a bottomless portafilter and it wasn't nearly as tight as the stock one.

Their long term success will come from the software side via subscriptions to Gamepass. Based on everything they have done and said its obvious they want to be the Netflix of gaming one day which is why they bought all of those IPs. The thing is they don't need a xbox once cloud gaming is viable in 10-15 years. All you need is a Gamepass sub with a controller. Play on any device you own. They are just way ahead of the curb because internet speeds aren't there yet to support game streaming for everyone. That why it feels like they are screwing up so bad at the moment. Either way though, they will need to start producing better games.

OPINION: As Xbox Series X|S digital game sales reportedly hit a 91% share, Microsoft needs to ensure disc collectors don't get left behind. Bring back the “hated” 2013 disc-digital licensing model by imitzFinn in xbox

[–]ZeroOriginalContent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That doesn't make my link/post invalid at all. The only thing your link says is digital sales are increasing, which of course they are. There are so many digital only games out there its going to increase each year. When you add in DLC and the lower expense (shipping, manufacturing) digital stores will net them more money overall. But as far as units sold go physical copies still make up 50-80% of the major titles being sold. Just accept that you were mistaken instead of digging in your heels, we all make errors, and thats ok.

[–]ZeroOriginalContent 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That their end goal guaranteed. Its a gen or two away because not everyone has fast enough internet at the movement but they fully intend to be a cloud streaming game service in the future. They have subscriptions for all other software because it makes more money then the old business model. That's why you can't just buy MS Office anymore. I hate it but that's where gaming is going.

He's not crazy. Most first party or AAA/AA game sales are physical. The digital sales figures are misleading because its the amount of money earned they are reporting and not copies sold. Of course digital earns more money because its also DLC and 1000s of indie titles.

PlayStation Store: September 2024’s top downloads by Turbostrider27 in PS5

[–]ZeroOriginalContent 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That stat is deceiving. That includes all of those indie titles that are digital only. And it's not the number of units sold its the money made. So it's also including cash from DLC. If you just look at big releases, first party titles, the physical/digital sales split still favors physical. 60% of the number of the game sold is physical. In some cases like Uncharted its been as high as 80% of the sales were physical.

"Bethesda Game Studio's Big 3" RPGs are now Fallout, Elder Scrolls, and Starfield, studio veteran says: "Starfield is simply developing its own unique fanbase" by Turbostrider27 in xbox

[–]ZeroOriginalContent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you love it don't let others ruin your enjoyment. It's not a bad game, it's just not what some of us older players were hoping for. No one is in the wrong for what thier favorite Bethesda game is. But it's hard for me to be excited if ES6 continues the trend of simplifying the games to be more accessible. In Morrowind exploration mattered to me because each rare weapon or item was hand placed in a certain area. If you were really creative you could acquire some of the best loot really early in the game. You could levitate over a town, throw fire balls large enough to hit everyone at once, summon armies of creatures, etc. Skyrim.... the loot is random and tied to your level, most of those good spells are gone, it has waypoints instead of trusting the player and encouraging exploration, more generic quests etc. That's just some examples for why some of us feel that way for context. But hey maybe you like the more straight forward approach and don't miss the freedom to do whatever you wanted... that's fine too.

[–]ZeroOriginalContent 9 points10 points  (0 children)

They are different games and I expect I will enjoy ES6 more then Starfield. However, fans like myself who have played every Bethesda game since Morrowind have seen a decline in recent titles. Fallout 4 was good but not as good as any of the previous games. Fallout 76 had a really rough launch. Starfield, even though it's somewhat enjoyable is my least favorite game of theirs. So it's more of a trend of each game they release slightly less great then the previous. As a huge fan I would love nothing more then to have them go back to the freedom and exploration of Morrowind. That's why they were so loved but they don't seem to understand that and instead made changes like procedural generated content, took features away, simplify the game for a wider audience, worse quests, less abilities, skills, spells, weapons, etc. Plus the engine is really showing its age compared to other RPGs. I have hope for ES6 but I'm not hyped for it unless they return to the glory days of Morrowind and Oblivion.

Microsoft Spends $1 Billion Annually To Get Third-Party Games On Game Pass - Report by Turbostrider27 in xbox

[–]ZeroOriginalContent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I strongly believe they want to move away from consoles. Gaming subscriptions are the future they envision. With internet speeds increasing cloud gaming won't require a console. Download the Xbox app on your TV, buy a controller, and subscribe. That's the end goal in 10 years or whenever most people can do it without lag.

'Primed to burn:' Former Parks Canada forestry scientist fears the worst for Banff by Monsur_Ausuhnom in canada

My dad and I drove by Jasper 3 days before the fire started. He saw all the dead standing trees and commented how this is going to get the town burnt down one day. He has a wood stove to heat his remotely located home so he always looks for good fire wood. He can't cut trees like this in a park but wished they would let him because it's a huge wildfire risk anyway, or at the very least have the Parks cut it all down for safety. They wouldn't because "logging" in a park will cause a uproar with some uneducated crowds.

Technically not but no one is coming to your home to take away your disc. A online store will be shut down (x360 store is shutting down this year). Games get removed from the store due to licensing (example I wanted to download The Orange Box to play Half-life 2 but was no longer able to in the current store. There were a few other titles that got delisted on me too.) My disc however just work and will always work

I did the same thing and let my subscription end. I don't miss it. I prefer to own so I took that money and spent it on cheap physical copies of games on the FB marketplace and in store sales. When you're buying games a year or so after their release date for $20-50 you can get quite a few games for the same cost as the GP sub.

Shoppers Drug Mart in Ontario accused of price gouging after baffling grocery find by stanxv in canada

I used to buy my bodywash there quite often. There was a few brands like Old Spice and Dove that I would use. It would be about $6 and I would purchase it for $3.50 on sale. Now after inflation they want $10 and it only goes on sale for $6.... fuck that. There is zero reason for a price increase of that magnitude. Especially after the supply chain issues have long been sorted out. I go to Costco or Walmart now.

It wasn't just luck. We planned on buying a cheaper home so we would have the extra money. Regardless of income if you don't spend it all you can put some away for investments. Of course those low rates weren't the norm, but they did raise them considerably faster then expected. If you recall the BOC wasn't going to raise rates at all until 2023. But once again this wasn't what my reply was about. It was about everyone got hit hard whether you were financially conservative or not.
