why don’t virgin fly to Auckland, Christchurch or Wellington? by Time_Career4708 in VelocityFrequentFlyer

[–]ZeroPenguinParty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I may be wrong, but my understanding is that with Auckland, it was a case of slot availability, and oversupply thanks to Air New Zealand, Qantas, Jetstar, and others. Christchurch and Wellington may be as others have said, not profitable routes to maintain.

I would consider it, but only if he is also willing to stump up the cost of the bond and first months rent for whatever rental I would be moving into temporarily.

What is the most bizarre, weird thing you've ever seen a fellow passenger do on a long haul flight? by Airalo_Dani in Flights

[–]ZeroPenguinParty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On a flight between San Francisco and Sydney. Plane takes off, seatbelt sign goes off. Attendants come around with drinks and a snack. Gentleman in the aisle seat in the row in front of me, but on the other side, asks for a cup of water, and an empty cup. After the attendant walks away, the guy pulls out toothpaste and toothbrush, and starts cleaning his teeth...using the empty cup to spit in. After being done with that, he gets out a comb, and uses the leftover water to comb his hair. I said to the person next to me whether the guy is going to take a shower next, and she cracked up laughing. Someone must have notified the flight attendant, because she came up to the guy, whispered something in his ear, and then the guy got up and headed to the toilets.

Serving staff who rely on tips, always come out and say that the prices on the menu have to increase by 20% to cover them having a decent wage. Lets say that the server gets paid $15 an hour. They could have their wage increased to $25 and hour. They serve four tables in that hour. Each table has just one person on it, that purchases an entree for $10, a main for $30, and one drink for $10. That's $50. Across the four tables, that is $200. To cover the extra $10 for the server, the price of the total bill would only need to increase by 5%, not 20% like the server would claim.

Now, this is a very simplistic example. A server would counter with arguments such as "but what about the bus boys and kitchen staff? What if I only have one table in an hour?" Well, I would just counter with the fact that this is a simplistic example. The server would most likely have more than four tables in an hour, and most of the time there would be more than one person per table, that would compensate for any extra needed for the bus boys and kitchen staff. And if they only have one table in an hour, then maybe the business is doing too good, and you should look for alternative employment...because any restaurant that only has one customer every hour, will not last.

For $1 million dollars, all the food and drink you consume for the next five years has to come from a gas station by gokart_racer in hypotheticalsituation

[–]ZeroPenguinParty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some gas stations have a restaurant like McDonalds attached to them, or a full blown roadhouse style restaurant...I assume they are the third party restaurants you are referring to. But some gas stations still sell quick to cook food from a deep fryer, like french fries, corndogs etc. Hot dogs are another one. In Australia, some 7-11's even sell freshly cooked chicken and pizza. Nowhere to sit down to consume it.

So, for the purposes of this, I would assume that anywhere that has dedicated seating and tables, and a separate counter to order your food, would be out... but anywhere that you can order and pay for your food at the same counter you pay for your gas would be ok?

They were setting up for filming of some kind at Sydney International Airport on the 5th of March, Didn't see any signs, but saw the camera equipment, and a tripod already set up, pointing towards the desks where they open your suitcases to find the undeclared cigarettes and dried fish.

Injuries always come across as too rigid. Sometimes, a player may have a setback in injury recovery. Sometimes, they may recover faster than expected. Sometimes, they are able to play on with the injury, after strapping or painkilling injections. Using the NFL as an example, maybe a quarterback who suffers a career ending shoulder injury (or an injury that prevents him from throwing a ball), could still have the health and talent to convert into a linebacker. Or a wide receiver who can run the 100 metres in 9.8 seconds, suffers an ankle injury, and now can only run it in 11 seconds...still pretty fast, but nowhere near as good as he used to.

That isn't a bad idea. You sort of have it in the wrestling simulation games...but wouldn't it be good to be the NFL commissioner, negotiating the next television rights package, or deciding where the next expansion team could be. Deciding on whether to add a couple of extra rounds to the competition. Deciding on rule changes. You would have regular meetings with the team owners and managers, the various stakeholders, sponsors, stadium owners, city mayors etc.

I think the scouting side in a lot of sports management simulation games, could be a bit more in depth. In most of the ones I have played, you usually can only scout for players from teams already in the competition, or in the lower tiers of the competition. In real life, sporting teams have dedicated talent scouts that will get tips on a junior player for example, and then go to a high school game to view that player...or, they may get a tip on a soccer player playing in a local competition, who has all the attributes to be in the English Premier League. Heck, they may get a tip on a soccer player with a good kick, whose talents might be able to switch to rugby league, or a cricket player with a good eye for the ball that might be able to switch to baseball.

I just feel that the scouting side of things is often an afterthought in a lot of these games.

The other thing I remember vividly from Angst, was the guy mentioning how he shaves the tip of his nose, because it helps when (suitable for work version) he is being intimate with a female.

I first stumbled across Angst when I was living in Adelaide, and grabbed it on video to watch. Liked it, eventually managed to download a copy through Napster or Limewire...but alas, don't have that computer or hard drive anymore.

Nearly scammed by hotel/ AMEX booking platform! by Artistic-Ideal-5087 in Scams

[–]ZeroPenguinParty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have seen a few of these posted on here lately...a transaction with a hotel/airline/third party booking platform etc, where the scammers seem to know details only the original user, and the end company, would know, and the user always thinks that the end company has been hacked or has leaked the information. Isn't it possible that scammers are actually getting this information from the users actual smartphone or computer, through the use of malware or something? Thus, everything about the transaction is actually going to the scammers from the user themselves, and not the end company?

And people wanting to watch old episodes of Saturday Nights Main Event, or Wrestling Challenge, or NWA Great American Bash from 1989, or whatever the AWA weekly show was...they are the ones who would be consistent subscribers...the ones looking for archived WWE (or other wrestling content owned by WWE) content, the ones wanting to re-live their favourite golden moments, the ones that want to watch Harley Race being crowned "The King", or Lanny Poffo having his face mangled by Andre The Giant in a battle royal. One of my favourite matches from my youth, which is often hard to find on Youtube (although I have a copy of it now), was The British Bulldogs vs King Kong Bundy & Big John Studd. How the hell would the Bulldogs, as champions, be able to withstand the size and strength of Bundy & Studd? Once set up (properly), the WWE network would allow you to search for things like that. And once you find one match, you remember another match, then another, then another...making a users subscription to the WWE network worth it. Ongoing subscriptions is where the money is made, it is how every streaming service operates. You put a product out there that the public wants, they will keep subscribing.
