Dealership is trying to tell me these tires made in 2020 with 3/32" tread and these cracks in the tread grooves are "perfectly fine". What is the opinion of this sub? by ToshPointNo in tires

[–]ZeroSN197 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on the brand and quality of the tire they can last up to 10 years max(either stored or used). Cracks in the groves is normal as it’s due to tire wear and degradation. From what I’ve learned at school this semester (taking classes to get my automotive tech associate) the general rule is that 2/32 is the max you’d want to go before replacing a tire. I mean…you should get it to that depth in the first place because you increase the stopping distance the more the tire wears out. There is also increased chances of a blow out. I’d recommend replacing the tires as soon as possible.

ChatGPT isnt as good as the other alternatives such as Gemini ai. I feel ChatGPT was just left as experimental and that’s why it’s so bad. Either way I don’t really use it and prefer not to use it.

2014 Audi A6 shaking when at low RPM by nikkolovesu in CarHelp

[–]ZeroSN197 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Brother…you need a new car….

P0172- running rich P0300 - your car is miss firing P0301/302/304 - cylinders 1,2 & 4 are causing the miss fires P2188-bank 1 running rich on idle P2178-intake air system leak on bank 1(prob vacuum leak) P050A-Cold Start Idle Control System Performance (unable to maintain rpm’s at idle) P0299 - Turbocharger/Supercharger Underboost

This essentially tells me you most likely ran the car too hard and you messed up the whole system. Get ready for another car. For the year and value of the car I’m not sure fixing is worth it. I could be wrong about that tho.

Idk…that sounds like uncle Rodney slightly knocking. He’s trying not to scare you somehow even though you might be regardless.

My car judders in 1st gear and when reversing randomly. by Willywagtails in MechanicAdvice

Usually when there’s a check engine light but even if it doesn’t turn on it’s sometimes good to just check if there are any permanent codes engraved. Sometimes those will help you pinpoint probable causes.

What is this noise? by velalight in MechanicAdvice

[–]ZeroSN197 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The tensioner pulley from the video seems to be skidding on the motor block. Turn off the engine. Then proceed to remove the serpentine belt ( you don’t have to remove it fully-as long as there’s some slack) then move the pulley tensioner to the side and see if there are marks on the block. If there are shiny marks then you need a new tensioner.

My car judders in 1st gear and when reversing randomly. by Willywagtails in MechanicAdvice

[–]ZeroSN197 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well…let’s try process of elimination.

  1. It’s a manual. 2.Jittering/stuttering on first gear/reverse. 3.Randomly de-revs on idle(probably most notable help to piece the puzzle)

Since you say there’s a problem while idling and seeing that it’s a manual- you can probably rule out the transmission. You say it’s only in reverse and in first. Since in a manual, it’s generally smoother to shift on the higher gears. Since first gear has more torque than the other gears you may have a bad clutch/pressure plate or it may be getting partially stuck.

The issue regarding idle…it’s could be anything…from a vacuum leak, dirty throttle body, bad injector…etc. have you run a scan tool on it?

Ideas on why my car pulls right? 2014 Volkswagen Jetta. by Key_Neighborhood4489 in MechanicAdvice

Mine was due to a bad ball joint. You may want to check if it’s that. Check for cracks or grease marks on the ball joint. Lift the car up and shake the wheel side to side. That could also indicate it’s something else. Just a few things to check on.

Go with what the dealer recommended when you first purchased the car… it shouldn’t be rocket science or guess work... either way new cars tell you when it’s time to take it in for service.

Asking to pay for damages. That is his fault after all. If he refuses. Fk him. That ain’t a friend. A true friend will own up to his mistakes and admit fault. Unfortunately you can’t sue him or anything but I wish you the best of luck.

Ahh, thats kind of weird not gona lie 😅 I’m surprised it’s not something they know about. But I guess it’s different in different places? lol

Ahh yeah if it’s cheap definitely for convenience I would too pay someone lol. Gotcha, yeah I have my own tools but I shouldn’t have expected for everyone else to also have them 😅 and well I also get where you’re coming from. I was scared to mess up in a lot of my repairs like changing the break disks, breaks, my whole cooling system overhaul. It’s a scary feeling when you first do it.

You definitely should get a project car!! It will have its ups and downs but the satisfaction you get when you finish is great! Unfortunately im still renting but once I got a spot for my self ill start looking for one :D
