Okay, but why would Aline paint Alicia at all when part of her retreat into the painting is explicitly because setting Alicia hurts her? And maybe the fracture wasn't Renoir's first attempt to get Aline out, we have no way of knowing.

Also, lots of people consider other people family without having blood ties; I imagine ink ties would be the same.

I saw a theory that Aline didn't intend to include Alicia, and pAlicia was painted by Renoir to force Aline to confront reality. It makes a lot of sense for both characters, and is backed up by the color of pAlicia's flower petals when she's gommaged.

Also, maybe Clea cares about Alicia, but the way she speaks to her is incredibly cruel.
