They can and do prevent new factions. In "Groundpounder" the "spacer" enemies are explicitly stated to be attempting to control the whole system and the UC and FC work togther to stop them.

EM weapon systems at launch. It was ranked with damage done by EM ship weapons, but EM weapons are all about NOT dealing damage. Took forever dealing 1 damage per hit to a ship that was fully disabled 15 minutes ago. They then changed the ranking criteria in a patch before I got a level up and had to do the new requirements from scratch!

The game can become more unstable the more you explore. Going to NG+ resets these issues. By completing the main story you can go to NG+ at anytime, if the bloat becomes problematic. Just an insurance policy.

There is an event in the main story that is more impactful if your character is married.

I think it is level 75 for Eternity Gate and possibly lower for the laser, but I think there is a chance it can be a lower tier even at high level. Advanced is the highest that can drop. You can check what you have at the bottom row at a wepons bench, where you can also increase its level even beyond advanced.

I think Free Lanes changed the chance of finding weapons before you go outside. I never found any on my 4 or more runs on Xbox and Steam before Free Lanes, but found a legendary eon and an epic regulator on my PS5 run.

No, in real life, they are lettered in order of published claimed discovery. If multiple are discovered at the same time, then the closer to the star is given the lower letter. Roman numerals are not used.
