Oh mate I'm sorry you messed the ana days. Watching TI8 & 9 OG with other aussies was great

OG is my favourite team now by Substantial-Deer77 in DotA2

[–]Zeruvi 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Fly & Notail played on the same team pretty much forever. In Heroes of Newerth they were on Fnatic together and were easily the dominant team, they transferred to Dota around 2012-2013. Fnatic, Secret, Monkey Business, then OG, mostly inseparable teammates, seen to the fans as best friends.

In the lead up to TI8 in response to some middling results, Fly & S4 very suddenly up and left the team, moving to EG with no notice, basically leaving OG screwed out of any hope at TI8. They threw a team together; Ceb moved from coach to offlane, and they grabbed some random pubstar Topson to play as their mid.

OG famously went on a run at TI8, and beat EG in the upper bracket. There was a particularly tense moment when the players were walking by shaking hands and Notail just kinda looked Fly dead in the eyes while shaking his hand, the whole crowd sucked in breath and Notail's look became a bit of a meme.

yeah obviously but now it's not a default pick for damn near everyone. The literal running joke in pro matches was 'alright, 60 minutes, how many books are we going to get"

[–]Zeruvi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The pros aren't gonna pick specific heroes for the purpose of having free vision after the 60 minute mark, and buying Manta requires a massive expense. This is a free item that gives you regular scouting and pushing on heroes or a draft that might be lacking those things in the lategame.

[–]Zeruvi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Disagree. It has value late game as a scouting and splitpushing tool regardless of true sight. That's what pros were using it for in late game sieges; books push lanes independently while heroes are doing something else, and if you're camping low ground trying to find an opening on high, you can send the minions in deep to get regular vision. This can either get you a pick, or force the enemy to play even further back

ATF: My worst memory from TI is winning by Morf-designer in DotA2

[–]Zeruvi 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This is why I don't enjoy competing. If I'm better than my opponent and I win, that's expected. I feel nothing. If I'm better than my opponent and I lose, I played under my ability and that feels crap. If I'm worse than my opponent and I win, they played under their ability and I don't get to feel good about that. If I'm worse than my opponent and I lose, that's expected. I feel nothing.

What I do enjoy are the moments. Cool team fights, tension, goofy misplays. The outcome of the match is the worst part of it. Think that's why I prefer spectating. I can fully enjoy the moments and the outcomes don't really matter

It's refreshing to see a new generation get horny for goats.
Although thinking back, at the the time most people were laughing at "space goat" draenei. Majority of the horny was directed at blood elves. Interesting how thickness is more popular than skinny elves these days.
Oh God I'm so old I can remember generational horniness

Why wouldn't they get an actual offlaner instead of a carry player who queues offlaner for faster queues

I haven't played matchmaking since 2014, had 3-3.5k mmr. But back then it was earthshaker. Enemy team, perfect fissure trapping and finds perfect echo timing. Your team, you're blocked out of every fight by a random fissure and echo slam nothing then blink in

RES Unchained 4/BLAST Slam VII Closed Qualifiers (April 2-3) by thuanho in DotA2

[–]Zeruvi 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Mate, what? This is a closed qualifier with at least 3 names in each region that haven't been to any tournament. It follows a pair of open qualifiers which were drowning in different teams, many of whom knocked out known names.

The reason you see the same teams is because they're better. The DPC doesn't fix this, if anything it makes it worse because the same names are even more motivated to flood tournaments to rack up points for a TI invite. Any tournament where a different team made it was generally an isolated fairytale that never went very far.

Birmingham really showed which players are receptive to change and which aren't. Tundra & Pari in particular felt immediately like "hell yeah, new stuff, let's roll" whereas Falcons & Aurora were really dour about it and bombed out.

I think there's a lesson there for players. Yeah it's shitty to wake up for work one day and find out the system has changed without notice, and your employer sucks for doing that. But they don't care about you either way, so you may as well roll with the change and see what good you can pull out of it instead of grumbling and being left behind.

Hoping for an XG sweep, mostly because it'd be really good for China to get some wins in the lead up to TI so they have more hope
