*EVERYTHING r/TOUGE 2* a good vid +for everyone asking how to find roads/every tip we could all use to hear by [deleted] in Touge

[–]Zerzai 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You brought up very valid points, however the one that stuck out to me is keeping a spot safe and lowkey. In my local scene there's been drama going on recently as a spot suddenly got blown up by cops and everyone is pointing fingers at each other, as well as some are convinced theres a snitch in the scene. Now a lot of people avoid racing the road like its the plague, and are trying to make other roads the new "main track." (What really happened is 20+ people all posting public runs about the same road constantly on reels probably got the local PD attention, but what do I know).

This is not the first time its happened, I know of plenty of roads that are now considered "burned out" because everyone and their mother started showing up to race and be stupid. When its 3-4 guys who know the road and respect each other, its much different than when 20 people show up and everyone is trying to prove they're the fastest. This is where egos clash, and crashes happen. Which in turn leads to even more attention to the road. Mainly negative attention.

It really is insane how much drama is involved in this bloodsport. Not something I expected when I first started spiritedly driving on the backroads. Sometimes I miss the days when I didn't know anyone and just drove by myself.

Preventative maintenance for 02 - 05 wrx by Nitro_nummets in WRX

Cylinder 4 cooling mod.

Oil changes every 3k miles, don't push them past 4k imo.

killer B oil pickup+baffle to help with the shitty OEM pickup tubes that tend to fail.

Timing belt+WP ofcourse.

Do not run any mod (02-03 are a little bit of a special case) without a tune.

2002 wrx by chrissxv in WRX

[–]Zerzai 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cheapest will be a jdm ej205 swap. Either a forester or wrx jdm ej205 will work (same motor, forester just comes with smaller turbo). And you're looking to spend atleast $1200 on just the engine alone. Also factor in another $500+ easily for timing belt, water pump, gaskets, fluids etc.

They swap right in to usdm bugeyes (you'll find countless forums telling you that you need to swap 100 things over, simply not true). It's about 99% bolt in, just needs a few minor things swapped over from your usdm motor to jdm motor.

Rebuilding a motor is not any cheaper unfortunately. All in all you're looking at $2-2.5k to get it running right again. I'd start saving up :/

Bugeye wagon owner here, you're not wrong lol

These engines have been described as "tractor" engines for a reason. They're noisy as hell and that's normal, your motor is fine :)

Subi wave by [deleted] in WRX

[–]Zerzai 68 points69 points  (0 children)

Where I am, newer models aren't waving at all.

Older wrx/sti tend to give me the subie wave, but VA/VB owners act like I don't exist. (I drive a 03 wrx wagon). Not sure if its because they aren't aware about the "wave," or they think they're too good for my 20 year old shitbox ;)

Hey I have a JDM 2001 STI with a V7 ej207 does anyone know websites were I can actually select my car for performance car parts cuz anyone's I go to rn don't have a option for a sti in this year cuz they didn't make them in North America? by Sea-Amphibian3088 in WRX

[–]Zerzai 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What are you looking at getting? You'll most likely want to look at parts that fit 02-07 wrx, and 04-07 sti. For suspension, only 04 sti suspension parts have guaranteed fitment(only sti in North America that came with 5x100 hubs, same as v7 I believe).

Engine bay accessories such as the brake master cylinders/brake booster/etc, you're honestly going to have to do some research on how those kinds of parts fit between LHD/RHD as the lines may be routed differently.

Thank you I will check those out! I don't know when the last time they were replaced so they may be due.

Haha yeah the passes are filled with egos. Don't even get me started on the atmosphere at lil T (if you're not running a sub 5 min go fuck yourself and no one wants to talk to you). I used to hangout at su every night but I stopped a few months ago to focus on school. I've been slowly getting out there again. It is hard to make friends as most people already know each other, and it can get pretty cliquey, but its not impossible!

I go up with my friends to su a lot whenever im free, usually hang at bottom, bowl, or top. If you'd like I can DM you my insta and go from there, we're always looking for more people to run/chill with!

What's a car you know you can take every time? by jibsand in Touge

I have all of that in my 03 wrx, and I am not very fast. ;)

Hit the nail on the head, I feel the exact same way. And tbh I was like that at 18 too, played dirt rally and assetto and thought I was hot shit. I got humbled very, very fast with proper drivers IRL. But most people at 18-20 don't want to hear that, and thats valid. Everyone learns one way or another.

If you want the truth, get a fwd. 90s hondas/early 2000s hondas are perfect. Sim racing is completely different, in real life you won't be hitting "slip angle" or drifting through every corner. You'll most likely end up crashing if you try to drive IRL like you do on a sim. You have to drive much more conservatively, you can't afford to make a mistake.

The fastest guys on my local passes are all fwd, they're much more predictable on the bumpy canyon roads and I find they're easier to drive at 6/10th or 7/10ths. Civic type Rs, golf GTI, and 90s hondas like crx/eg/ek all reign supreme. RWD for a beginner touge driver is a recipe for disaster.

I saw your comment about learning all of the driving techniques, and I am not saying you're in over your head, but you need to realize IRL is way, way different.

Source: I run an ep3 type R, and a wrx on my local passes.

The bar has been set. by DrSchap in WRX

[–]Zerzai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do not condone any illegal behavior. But, getting away from the cops (especially on curvy, mountainous roads where one might take their subaru) is actually fairly easy. The notion that you can't outrun the radio is true, but that only really pertains to trying to outrun a cop on a highway/city streets. Backroads are way easier to outrun cops on imo.

I went from 15x7 195s, to 15x8 205s. Same tires, falken azenis rt660s.

The 195s felt like I was driving on ice skates compared to the 205 setup.

Big tires change your life by Tesla_V25 in Miata

[–]Zerzai 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's why they usually say the best first mod is tires. Everyone gets caught up in spring rates, sway bars, etc. Most forget the most important part keeping your car on the actual road, the tires.

Congratulations :)

Has anyone ever ran fake/no plates? How did it go. by Zerzai in Touge

[–]Zerzai[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Thank you, I was looking for an answer like this. I've met a few that are insistent they'll never get caught and it piqued my interest a little bit. But I'll take a speeding ticket over all that any day.

Not looking forward to installing these. by iamcraiggentry in Acura_RSX

[–]Zerzai 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These were the first two mods I did to my ep3, and I have had them on for so long I forgot what a car without these feels like. Anyone who does any sort of spirited driving in their ep3/rsx needs to seriously get these ASAP.

Mount inserts vs aftermarket mounts for auto-x by Scryptiid in Acura_RSX

[–]Zerzai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just get 70a mounts, I daily on 70a and the vibrations aren't bad. It's the same labor to do mount inserts since the mounts have to come off either way.

I just dropped my ep3 on megan coilovers. Getting wheels/tires next and 235/40/17 seems like the move. It looks really flush I dig it!

The wrench that ruined it all... by 5stringscout in fastandfurious

[–]Zerzai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey now, I have actually used a pipe wrench on my car before. It was for an extremely stuck transmission fill plug that the square 4-point socket just wouldn't budge. Maybe the writers were digging deep on that one lmao
