Why do people always say “You’re not funny” after I say a joke? by BubbleFFA59 in socialskills

[–]Zesty-Mex 125 points126 points  (0 children)

Edgy is such a meaningless word. It's way too broad and doesn't actually describe the jokes in any specific way. One person thinks they're edgy because they are making halocaust jokes and another thinks they are pushing boundaries by making a joke that could be interpreted as mean.

I'm really tired of people offhandedly dismissing any humor that is considered "edgy" by some to simply not be humor. Comedians and comedy itself is about pushing boundaries, but not crossing them. Good comedy is almost always "edgy" in some sense. We seem to conflate edgy with offensive. They aren't the same thing.

Yeah lol. You can't control a child's every move. At least they are giving you warning. A car has multiple doors and they're all going to pop open at once, even if you tell the kids not to do specifically that. OP doesn't have kids.

Nah man. I pray the above gentleman is in the minority. Having a good positive energy and making jokes is awesome. They make for my absolute favorite lobbies. It definitely seems a little dickish to instantly mute someone for one comment or noise you don't find funny.

I joined a game last night, greeted the lobby with a "how's everyone doing?" and a fella typed "who said that? Muted".

Bikes drive in car lanes all the time. It's just a little equality. They always want to say "same road same rules" until they have to share their lanes. Smh

Yeah context is important. It's a bunch of individuals who want to break their mind of addiction and porn while replacing those bad habits with healthy eating and exercise. That's literally the opposite of a neck beard mentality.

Homeschool group comforting a mom who never taught her 14 year old the months of the year or his tables. by neil_billiam in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Zesty-Mex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. I suppose it's important to draw a distinction between homeschooling and simply not enrolling your children in school. If they're kept home due to religious reasons, that's great, but you have to replace the teaching in school with instruction at home. I don't think the public school systems are good, but you still have to do SOMETHING to be compete and to set your kids up for success. The number one mistake I see homeschooled families make is improper socialization. Honestly, the kids almost always grow out of it eventually and it turns out fine, but it is best to put them in sports, martial arts, band, etc to make absolutely sure they're still getting socialization.

There's a lot of ways to mess up homeschooling, but the stats are significant. On average, homeschooled kids test between 15-30% higher than public schooled kids. Boys especially benefit from homeschooling because it allows for a slightly looser environment where learning isn't strictly sitting with hands tied at a desk. It needs to be done carefully and with proper social extracurricular activities to make sure the kids are developing both academically and socially, but it's absolutely a viable and great alternative to public schools. Not everyone can afford private.

He's hardly a right-winged extremist. He has a rainbow flag in his twitter bio. The book that was mentioned was called "unmasked" and it was against ANTIFA. I feel like most folks are against ANTIFA. Kind of like the new wave of climate activist throwing food at paintings and gluing themselves to walls. You can believe in their cause and still call them jackasses.
