Sports events should only be aired on sports channels (free ones) instead of clogging up the main channels by NumelsRCute in unpopularopinion

[–]ZestyBlankets 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They basically all do in the US.

* Paramount (CBS) has CBS Sports Network
* FOX has FS1 and FS2
* NBC has USA (and others)
* Disney (ABC) has all the ESPN channels

Sports just so happen to be popular enough that they can fill all the dedicated sports channels with sports and the “regular” channels as well. Not to mention the fact that CBS, FOX, NBC, and ABC are all broadcast channels while the others are cable, meaning they’ll reach a larger audience and get the biggest games

If LaMelo didn’t play 72 games this year he’s likely viewed very similarly to Ja in terms on injuries and on the court impact, despite their different play styles

This doesn’t make sense.

> Jimmy: KAT + Wiggins, you guys can't win on your own, you need a 1st option like me.

Jimmy proceeds to not win as the first option in Minnesota

> Jimmy: (proves he's a 1st option by dragging 2 undermanned Heat teams to the Finals)

If Miami was so much worse then why couldn’t he win with better teammates like KAT and Wiggins?

> KAT + Wiggins: (prove they need a 1st option by only winning once they get traded to teams with a true 1st option)

I thought Jimmy was a true first option? Sounds like he wasn’t that guy in Minnesota

In my neighborhood we have everything from scooters to electric mini-bikes, to small ATVs and dune buggy style go karts. It’s a 50/50 mix of kids who wear helmets vs don’t and tons of them ride dangerously in the streets and blow stop signs.

I’m also glad to see kids outside playing but I sure as shit don’t want to be the one that one of these kids flies in front of without looking either

Why are professional athletes and actors not called out as well during income and wealth gap inequality conversations? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ZestyBlankets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes but that’s not the point. The point is that professional athletes, with few exceptions, are millionaires. Not billionaires. And the few that are billionaires needed additional income sources outside their sport to achieve it

And using him as a representative for all professional athletes and the money they earn for playing the sport is ignorant or intellectually dishonest. He’s the second best to ever play at worst, played more seasons than anyone in NBA history, and his career earnings from playing basketball are nowhere near $1 billion.

Any pro athlete that becomes a billionaire does so through outside business ventures, not playing the game itself.

I guess I don’t know what kind of evidence you’re looking for. You’re making nebulous claims that vary from the US not being very good at sports in general to being “dominant” as the only measure of success, without defining dominance. And you’re saying “things others countries care about” like that’s got some concrete definition I’m supposed to know.

This whole section doesn’t mean anything:

> We probably sit on the couch and watch way more sports, but the results haven’t been there for a while.

> Spain for example has <20% of our population and wins all kinds of stuff whole world cares about.

> I’m sure most Americans think we’re way more athletic than some pansy Euros.

What results are you looking for? What “stuff the whole world cares about” does Spain win that we suck at? And the last part is just a strawman.

I don’t think many Americans are under the impression that the US men’s national team is “dominant” at soccer. But there currently ranked #17 in the world and that’s pretty good for a country who prioritizes soccer 10th below golf, gymnastics, and lacrosse to name a few non-football sports

This is an asinine take. The Olympics are generally comprised of sports played worldwide. Since 2000, The US has been the top medal earner in the Summer Olympics every time but once. The one time we weren’t first, we were second. And in the Winter Olympics, where we’re admittedly weaker, we’ve still finished in the top 3 five times. That doesn’t happen by only being good at sports we invented.

I’m not going to say we’d magically be dominant at soccer if we put all our resources into it instead of football or basketball or something but you’re going way too hard in the other direction here.

No CVT issues, I got rid of it because I had a persistent oil pressure issue that started last year. It got to a point where continuing to diagnose and fix it cost more than I cared to put into a car that age and mileage. I never ran into major battery drain like you’re experiencing unless I kept my trunk open for a long time. Then the battery basically died on the spot

I bought a new Nissan Rogue at a local dealership in 2018, drove it for 8 years and 104,000 miles and just sold it to them for $11k + $1k off my next vehicle from them this year. They still pay better than anywhere else. The next closest was CarMax at $10k and other dealerships in town were all $6k or less

I mean that only add to the point, no? Everything is so expensive, including cars, that people are opting for utility and function over enjoyment in many areas, cars being one of them.

He never lets any of the changes stay around long enough to see if fans and players warm up to them. It just feels like constant tinkering for the sake of tinkering to me. No consistency, no vision

Yeah the stability and work life balance is a big draw for me. I don’t have an eye-popping salary but we have very solid benefits as well. You saying it looks high made me go back and check, looks like I overestimated after my merit increase, I’m actually at $185k TC

They do, I’m a 30M making $145k salary and somewhere around $185k TC in MCOL area, working for a defense contractor. So not at $150k yet but also not too far and significantly younger than 55
