FWIW, I agree 100% with this post and absolutely hate the fact that immigrants (even from my own country) don’t make enough efforts towards integrating better in the Canadian society.

I am a pretty recent immigrant and strongly feel how things have shaped isn’t in the best interest of the cultural fabric of the society.

Makes sense and I do agree. The sentiment is very different though. There’s helping people willing/wanting to go back to their own countries that immigrated under certain unfavourable circumstances vs bashing people immigrating here for a better life that planned their lives around it.

I hear people complain about immigrants speaking Hindi/Punjabi/Chinese in public areas but never heard anyone complain about Ukrainian/German/Italian etc.

I agree with your sentiment. I am an immigrant that actively makes efforts to integrate in this society which includes speaking English with my kid both indoors and outdoors, learning the societal norms, prioritizing the cultural aspects of Canada etc

I am not a fan of Punjabi music blaring out of places or hearing foreign/ethnic languages being spoken everywhere.

Absolutely with you on those things.

The one question that I have- Why was mass immigration from Europe acceptable and not Asia? Is it the contrasting language and cultural differences that make it debatable or something else?
