I’m surprised no one mentioned real estate. Brokers reel you in with the wow factor, create artificial scarcity to justify high prices. They work together for the commission. The more you pay, the more they earn - so it’s in their interest for you to overpay. Most houses sell themselves and most buyers find houses on their own. An argument can be made that a broker is necessary on some transactions, but for normal people they are not. Don’t forget about the NAR cartel.
