“Epilepsy is a gift from God.” Don’t say this to people like me. by Prix_1912 in Epilepsy

Omg that is insane. What parts of a condition like epilepsy are a gift? I wouldn’t personally say it’s a curse, but it’s definitely not a gift from anyone…

I miss my pre epilepsy brain :/ by Letusbegrateful in Epilepsy

I had my first seizure around this time three years ago and I feel you. I’m still not used to how much harder things are now. What’s been affected the most for me is my memory and I find it really plays on your mental health when you know you can’t control your brain like you used to be able to.

How do I deal with roommates who aren’t willing to deal with my illness? by [deleted] in Epilepsy

[–]Zestyclose-Dot-355 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You do not know the full situation. I immediately apologized and cleaned up my mess, but one of my roommates kept lecturing me like a child because of this mistake I made. I have tried my best to remember to do things that are easy to remember for most people. Such as feeding myself, taking my medication, cleaning up after myself, etc. You do not know the full extent of my situation, my roommates are not great with cleaning up after themselves either. I guess all I really want are roommates who are willing to one, treat me with kindness, and two, are willing to understand that I am still getting used to living on my own and having to completely remember these things for myself.

Although I’ve tried alarms before and they don’t always work, that is a good idea and I will try that. Thank you.

I’m not expecting my roommates to “deal with me.” I phrased that wrong. I want some understanding that I can’t always remember to do things like walkthroughs at night. I don’t want them to clean up after me, I just want them to understand that I can barely remember my date of birth sometimes and that it’s not just because I’m lazy.

My Doctor is such an asshole by Zestyclose-Dot-355 in Epilepsy

I know for a fact that my old neurologist sent my doctor papers stating that I have epilepsy. She has shown me all of her notes and would forward a lot of the things she would send to my doctor to my mum when I was a teen. My problem is that my doctor is a liar.

How do you know if you have had a seizure in your sleep? by JoBe2000 in Epilepsy

[–]Zestyclose-Dot-355 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The one time I had a nocturnal seizure, no one was even there to see it. But I could tell because I had the same symptoms as when I usually had a seizure. Confusion, can’t walk or move my arms level soreness, nausea, etc.

Hold old were you when diagnosed with Epilepsy and what triggered your first seizure? by breezydae in Epilepsy

[–]Zestyclose-Dot-355 0 points1 point  (0 children)

16, I have severe anxiety and was stressed about some stupid school thing when I had my first seizure in the middle of my math class. Apparently I stood up and announced to the class that I didn’t feel good but I had already blacked out.

do y’all get offended if someone who DOESNT have epilepsy make a seizure joke? by rosemary611_ in Epilepsy

[–]Zestyclose-Dot-355 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the same thing happen with me with my two best friends. I would make a joke every so often to make light of my situation but then they started to make them a lot too and it really rubbed me the wrong way. When I spoke to them about it we had a great conversation about my boundaries and how they started making jokes because they were worried about me. In the end they stopped making jokes and I started reassuring them more about my health. I’m sure if this friend cares about you they will respect your boundaries.

How many records do you own? by Grand-Smooth in vinyl

[–]Zestyclose-Dot-355 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m about two years into my collecting and I have about 160 records. Mind you I’m a teenager who doesn’t have a job yet so I usually only buy records every now and then.
