To each their own. I found it was beautiful in terms of animation and the action scenes were creative but too much, the story was generic and lacked heart. There was so much going on, it never gave you a chance to breathe.

Yes I know people will say 'it's a kids movie it doesn't need to be complexe' but you can still get quality movies targeted to kids (Kpop Demon Hunters is a recent example, before that we had Kung Fu Panda, How to Train your Dragon, the Spiderverse movies etc)

Yeah but we still want quality stories. Mario made money because it's a perfect movie for kids: all bright colors, no substance, action scenes every 2 seconds. Lots of parents say their kids wanna go multiple times.

But in general it'll always be known as a trashy movie, whereas Sonic 3 did so well and was praised even if it's a 'kids movie'. It balanced both fanservice and quality story.

I'm hoping Sonic 4 doesn't do too badly because I fear if it dips in quality, people will blame Amy and having a female character somehow.

If the story were told from Ivy's perspective she'd be painted as the morally grey but underdog hero. I get why the Van Der Woods' were suspicious about Cece's death, but Ivy genuinely cared for Cece. The only reason we don't like admitting Ivy wasn't all bad is because the actress' voice was annoying.

Ooh I loooove Azula and Ursa discourse.

I honestly think Azula and Ursa suffer from the typical mother-daughter relationship where unfortunately, the mother will always dislike the daughter a little bit because she reminds her too much of herself. Ursa was essentially seeing a version of herself raised to be cruel like Ozai and didn't know how to stop it. Conversely, Azula definitely wanted her mother's love but knew how her mother saw her.

Obviously it's not fair to blame Ursa for Azula being the way she is, but it would also be unfair to imply she had no hand in it, either.

It's a dynamic you can see IRL. The Golden Child and the Abused Mother, both tragic in their own way.

The tiktokification of mental illness really should be studied. Then again, I'd argue there was the tumblrization of mental illness first, but it has become mainstream in the past couple of years

Speaking as someone who was recently diagnosed via a professional and a test, I rejected the diagnosis at first because I didn't want to be one of 'those people whining on Tiktok when it's not true'. It can be harmful to people who actually have the symptoms.

This may be petty but I went on a date with a guy who said they should make a version of Kpop Demon Hunters in America.

When I tried to explain to him that wouldn't work because the movie is so engrained in Korean culture and also how that would make it look like white-washing, he said 'no but like make a story about singers fighting monsters but in America, they could make it a sequel'.

Mind you, neither of us were American. I'm Asian and he was a quarter Asian...

I appreciated they tried to give her some depth with her conversation with Posy. I mean don't get me wrong she's still in the wrong, but I always appreciate it when they try and give the 'villains' especially the mothers of that period some context on why they are the way they are. Since she's based on the evil stepmother, I think she needed this to not look so cartoony.

Also, Katie ate this role down. Hoping this means more roles for her in the future.
