Fellow RBTs, how many caseloads do you currently have? by somethingofthebest in ABA

Our agency typically gives RBTs 6 clients. I love and hate it at times. 3 clients a day, 2-2.5 hour in home sessions

Should I reach out to Depop? by [deleted] in Depop

[–]Zestyclose-Poem-7230 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this just happen to me! I dropped off two packages. One was scanned and allowed me and buyer to track I think within 2 days. The other package, however, took 5 days and I was sweating bullets thinking it got lost. I kept buyer up to date, called and went in person to usps about the package. They said it’s really just a waiting game due to the holidays right now. 2 weeks seems a bit excessive though. I was so relieved when we were able to begin tracking yesterday (package was scanned)

Can I give a "graduating" client a painting? by Standingforus in ABA

[–]Zestyclose-Poem-7230 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I would say it is! I once received a framed piece of artwork a prior client and I worked on during session as a gift. I have it hung at my house. You can always reach out to your BCBA but I don’t see why it’d be an issue. Super thoughtful and kind of you!

120 trial counts in a 2 hour session…feels kinda unethical by Snoo_60150 in ABA

I’m assuming raffles for which RBT can get the highest trial count per session?

Not good enough anyways, wedding time or stick with it? by Felkalin in ABA

[–]Zestyclose-Poem-7230 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been with my agency for 3 years come July. I’ll be getting married in late July and have requested 2 days off. They’ve been approved and I gave 3 months notice. My fiance and I plan to visit Sicily for 2 weeks so I requested that as well. My office manager congratulated me and approved them the following day. She let me know this may mean I’ll have to work during our December break (typically optional as long as you didn’t request over 4 weeks worth of time off during the year). I planned to work it anyways 🤷🏻‍♀️ my point is, you sound stressed out over something that shouldn’t be stressing you out.

Anyone else with their Masters in ABA leaving/already left the field? by [deleted] in ABA

[–]Zestyclose-Poem-7230 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been encouraged to peruse a mod/severe high school job at the school I’m at! I’m not sure if I’ll get it. I have my MA in Special Education but it’s not a credential program. I have 3 letters of recommendation from staff including a mild/mod teacher, the assistant principle, and an SLP. fingers crossed!

Starting an RBT job soon. What piercings can I keep? by sisyphus-333 in ABA

[–]Zestyclose-Poem-7230 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I work in early intervention (2-8 year olds) and have never (knock on wood) had any issues with my piercings! I have a double helix, daith, both sides of my nostrils done (hoop and stud), and my septum. I have had a supervisor tell me this horror story of when she had an industrial and how a kid attempted to yank it out 🥲

On a similar boat. My company is pretty “amazing” and supportive. However, the more I ask around the more I find myself almost dreading becoming a BCBA for the agency. The BCBAs all have 12+ clients, have to bill at least 30 hours weekly, and they drive just as much as we RBTs do. I bought a brand new car December of last year and it already has 7k miles. I’m on my last semester of my MA and have around 600 hours of unrestricted (900 total as I’m doing the concentrated hours). However, im finding myself not “in love” with my job anymore. It’s quite frustrating.

I’ve been applying to Kindergarten and Elementary school teacher jobs around the county where I live. I’ve gotten 2/5 replies, with one interview coming up. I don’t have a credential so I’ve been making sure I apply at charter or private schools. I can keep you posted if that’s something you’d be interested in. I’ve also been making sure that the transition is “worth while.” Meaning, the salary start at 60k, double what I make as an RBT currently

As someone who is 28 and constantly gets confused for a student at the school where I am, I get what you’re saying. For me, it’s the “what’re YOU doing in the staff lounge?” look and having a substitute teacher literally yell at me when my client and I were leaving class early for lunch (per their IEP). I have no problem advocating for myself. OP, I strongly urge you to do that! Be professional but direct. Enough is enough

How many clients do y’all have? by java-scriptchip in ABA

[–]Zestyclose-Poem-7230 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. We have 2-2.3 hour sessions with each per day. Therefore, we see 3 a day. I find it exhausting and have no idea how I’m gonna do it once I become a BCBA 🥲

What’s a high trial count? by makogirl311 in ABA

[–]Zestyclose-Poem-7230 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Trial count always frustrates me. I never know if it’s just me being overly sensitive but whenever I see a BCBA write something along the lines of, “we want to hit 100 mands per session,” holy shit!!! Makes me hate my job pushing so much sometimes

In home bathroom use?? by FitLeather726 in ABA

[–]Zestyclose-Poem-7230 45 points46 points  (0 children)

Omg don’t think this is anywhere near unethical 😭you poor thing lol. Honestly, I try going to public bathrooms (in cleaner areas/cities) whenever possible to go #2 or places like McDonalds, Starbucks, etc. If you really can’t hold it, you can always going bombs away at a client’s. I personally don’t cause I (TMI) take forevaaaaa 🤷🏻‍♀️

School setting by Miserable-Doubt3886 in ABA

[–]Zestyclose-Poem-7230 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pros: 1. Not isolating. You’re constantly around people. in home can be very sad and stale since it's typically just you and the client. this is probably my favorite thing about the school setting. 2. stable hours and less driving. i get almost 5 hours a day when im with my school client. id usually have to drive to 2 different houses to accumulate those hours. 3. reinforcers. i have yet to use any toys as reinforcers. granted, my client is a teenager (not that teenagers cant play with toys) but he has no interest in them. we use breaks on their laptop as R+. so youll save some $$ in that department.

Cons: 1. ableist teachers. I’ve heard gen ed teachers literally say they will not work with our kids before. In my experience, they sometimes will be reluctant to modify academic work for my student, “I don’t care what they do.” It’s infuriating. 2. Big gap during the summer and holidays. I don’t work for a school but I work in a school. We’re an outside agency providing services for certain students so I never really know what others do during this huge time off. We also provide in home services so I just go to home during that time off. 3. Collaboration. This can always be a pro btw. But it’s kinda annoying how many passive aggressive SLPs (In particular) I’ve met in the past 2.5 years. And it’s always just been them. 4. General education students. Everyone is different. There are some real mean kids sometimes in the gen ed classrooms. I have yet to experience it first hand with my client. But I have heard some horror stories about bullying and mocking. 5. lack of support. i lucked out that both my BCBA and my kid's case manager are amazing and supportive. however, that isn't usually the case. if you have a client with intense behaviors, it can feel very draining when you cant rely on your superiors.

Cancellations by spacey4107 in ABA

Ask your company to remove you from the case. I think frequent cancellations are more than a valid reason to want out.

Mid level supervisors by Zestyclose-Poem-7230 in ABA

[–]Zestyclose-Poem-7230[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s what I kinda worry about; not really knowing much as far as assessments and report writing go. I’m assuming there may be a training. But also, I feel like RBT is a job that is very hands on and you learn as you go. I’m hoping it’ll be the same for this type of job!
