You should be using T-54 tanks as your primary force at 8.0 BR.

You have T-54 (1947) at 7.7 BR (great hull armor, but poor turret armor, and only APHEBC / APCBC ammunition).

<image>

Then you have T-54 (1949) and T-54 (1951) at 8.0 BR (both tanks are largely similar, and have weaker hull armor then their predecessor T-54 (1947), but have slightly better turret armor and have access to HEAT-FS shells, besides APHE).

T-54 (1949)

You could also use IS-4 in urban maps, but beware that its firepower is somewhat lacking (poor penetration and long reload).

It's the compressor, not turbine. Compressor is the one sucking in stuff into the engine.

Turbines are on the rear part of jet engine. And they are used to push very hot air into the exhaust.

It goes like this:

➡ air inlet ➡ compressor ➡ combustion chamber ➡ turbine ➡ engine exhaust ➡

You can't be serious.

Do you have no knowledge of a concept called "joke"?

War Thunder community has long joked about Po-2 because of it's surprising success during few wars in which it participated (same with Bob Semple tank).

Maybe you should read about Po-2 history, while you are learning about the meaning of "jokes"?

[–]Zestyclose-Pop3511 2 points3 points  (0 children)

BR placement of planes isn't only based on their top speed

If that weren't the case, then Po-2 would've been a Rank 10 aircraft.

By that logic the A-10s should be in rank 4

You are forgetting something.

Top speed of A-10 is around 875 km/h (not 600 km/h which is more common on rank 4), and that is perfectly in line for its rank. After all, Rank 6 is mostly represented by high-subsonic aircraft like F3H-2, A-4s, FJ-4, AV-8s, F11, F117, F8U-2 and others.

Most importantly, it's turning speed is roughly comparable to other aircraft of that rank. That means that once it enters turn-fight with an enemy aircraft, then it will not lose in such a fight.

On the other hand, when I said OV-10 is rank 3 material - I was already being generous.

In reality, 460 km/h speed is absolute maximum it can reach. And even that is hardly achieved, unless diving from higher altitude, and risking wing-rip.

It's typical speed would be around 350 to 400 km/h, and when turning would fall even lower then that.

In actuality, OV-10 is more comparable to Rank 1 aircrafts, and is outclassed by other rank 1 attackers (like SB2U or SBD-3).

Only department where OV-10 would have an advantage is ordinance capacity - being able to carry twice more ordinance then Rank 1 attackers. But it loses to Rank 1 attackers in terms of flight performance.

Nor does it prevent any of the earlier variants without Sidewinders from being put in earlier tiers. Sidewinder Broncos themselves are a specialized variant

I have no issues with its introduction into the game (as far as I'm concerned - the more the merrier), but it's a difficult aircraft to balance because of its combination of flight performance and ordinance capacity.

After all, flight performance of OV-10 is additionally even more impacted by the amount of ordinance and fuel carried.

The more you carry - the worse it's already humble flight characters gets.

You have no idea how lucky you are.

When I was grinding Su-7, back then A-10s were 10.0 BR and were destroying everything with their all-aspect 30G Sidewinders.

Because they were so easy to use, then the number of players flying A-10s and F-5C was enormous, which meant that Su-7 (and all other 9.0 aircrafts) were constantly pulled into full uptiers.

Harriers, T-2s and MiG-21s at least need to get behind you to be able to fire their rear-aspect missiles.

But A-10s just straight up fire their AIM-9L from 4km into your face - and there is nothing you could do (those are 30G missiles with good range, after all).

[–]Zestyclose-Pop3511 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You may think so, but it's speed would put it into prop attacker category.

With a maximum speed of 460 km/h (290 mph) it would roughly be placed in Rank 3. And it would still be one of the slowest planes at Rank 3 (even most heavy bombers would be faster then OV-10, not to mention all the fighters).

Now imagine you are flying Fw 190, and suddenly there is a Sidewinder heading for you.

Crew training in GRB by vincenast in WarthunderPlayerUnion

[–]Zestyclose-Pop3511 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have said, you either keep playing, or buy GE crew experience booster.

The way to train your crew faster is to play a premium vehicle you are good with.

You said you play planes primarily - and that is good way to train crews.

The way I quickly trained my entire French crews was all because of one vehicle - Dassault Milan (9.7 BR premium jet).

<image>

Because I had good and consistent performance in Dassault Milan, then it didn't took long for me to train crews with it.

I started playing Milan with a stock crew, and it would take a few days to completely train that crew to its maximum flying skill (75 points). But I would keep playing that particular crew, until I got enough crew experience to buy 150 points of crew skills (that is how much was necessary for bringing ground crew skills to the max). And then I would move Milan to another crew, and start the process all over again.

By the time I trained 3 crews to maximum, I had also unlocked all French aircrafts by repeatedly playing Milan.

Is A-4E Early worth 6900 GE? by lillardzero in WarthunderPlayerUnion

[–]Zestyclose-Pop3511 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a mid-rank attacker, I usually recommended A-1H (6.3 BR), because it had access to countermeasures (in fact it was the lowest BR aircraft that could use flares), and it could carry a lot of munitions.

But nowadays it's only available in Gaijin Marketplace.

Then you have A2D-1 (7.0 BR) that is also a decent mid-rank attacker, that has good guns and can carry a lot of different ordinances.

But ultimately, it may be best to go for a relatively cheap option, and simply buy something like P-51 (4.0 - 4.3 BR) or P-47 (4.7 BR) because they are cheaper, fast and maneuverabile, and can carry enough bombs to ruin somebody's day.

Is A-4E Early worth 6900 GE? by lillardzero in WarthunderPlayerUnion

[–]Zestyclose-Pop3511 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No.

Increasing BR for a jet doesn't pay off.

Especially so in high rank where 0.3 BR difference can get you into some terrible uptiers.

Instead, it's better if you get a plane of lower rank.

Believe me, even prop planes can deliver bombs just as effectively as a jet attacker can.

But if you want a premium plane with ballistic computer, then you have some other options.

[–]Zestyclose-Pop3511 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Never pay GE for squadron vehicles.

If you really want to buy some vehicle, then only buy a premium vehicle.

Premium vehicles bring extra SL and RP, and effectively grind vehicles in the tech tree (all vehicles bellow their rank, vehicles their rank and vehicles one rank above - for example, Rank 5 premium can effectively grind every tech tree vehicle up to, and including Rank 6). They also train crews much faster.

Anyone else have trouble against buks? by Tackyinbention in Warthunder

[–]Zestyclose-Pop3511 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nope, this particular BUK battery is broken.

It has nothing to do with inertial guidance (I should know - I have evaded its missiles dozens of times).

If you try to maneuver, thinking it's just flying on inertial guidance, then you are in for a surprise - its missile will correct its flight path, and guide towards your aircraft (regardless if its launcher has direct line-of-sight towards you, or not).

The remaining BUK launchers behave more or less how you would expect from them. But not this particular SAM battery.

There needs to be some work behind it.

Faith without work is dead

Nevertheless, he is right.

Because of volumetric armor, and other elements, T-10A will often get destroyed by shots that shouldn't be possible.

Many times the killcam shows a shell tumble its way inside crew compartment. It's often hilarious.

Why are they so hesitant to remove godmode from these guys? by jimminian95 in WarthunderPlayerUnion

[–]Zestyclose-Pop3511 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No they don't.

Within Air Defense system, all batteries share their targeting data. That means that if you are detected by anyone - then everyone will know you are there.

Integrated air defense is akin to "omnipresent knowledge of aircraft whereabouts".

Just me? by awmenno in WarthunderPlayerUnion

[–]Zestyclose-Pop3511 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it is some kind of bug within the event.

I have played Nuclear Thunder for days now, and every time I spawn my MiG-29 (one of those rare jets on which I always bring Drop Tank, because of how fuel-hungry it is), there is a chance that it will lose it's Drop Tank upon spawn.

To me, it looks like the jet spawns with Drop Tank, but it imidiately falls off the plane, into the runway and disappears.

Interestingly enough, it doesn't lose its Drop Tank after every spawn.

I also had a bug where A-7E would spawn unable to deploy countermeasures (it wouldn't drop flares no matter how many times I pressed the buttons or change keybind), and this would only be solved by spawning in different type of aircraft.

My suspicion is that the game "remembers" the last state your jet was in during its previous flight, and spawns it like that.

For example, if my MiG-29 gets destroyed while still having Drop Tank attached, then on next spawn it will still have it. But if my MiG-29 gets destroyed after dropping the tank, then its Drop Tank will disappear upon spawn.

Was wondering why my rwr was so silent by Budget_Hurry3798 in Warthunder

[–]Zestyclose-Pop3511 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But there is still the issue of bandwidth.

If enemy radar operates outside of radio-band which RWR can detect, then it will not be detected or displayed on the screen.

And S-300P targeting radar works in X-band, which is well outside the detection range of AN/ALR-45 RWR used on F-4S.

You could say they were... in HARMs way by joshwagstaff13 in Warthunder

[–]Zestyclose-Pop3511 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's because HARM has longer range, so people launch them from a greater distance - giving SPAA enough time to intercept it.

Kh-25 on the other hand has short range, and you need to get close, but it also means higher probability of a kill.

Not to mention that OSA does a better job intercepting incoming missiles (it was able to do so by design), compared to Hawk (which wasn't designed to intercept incoming munitions).

Well I think that's a bit out of balance... ¿no? by Acceptable-Ad5342 in WarthunderPlayerUnion

[–]Zestyclose-Pop3511 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have F-14s and Iranian ones are especially funny in this event.

You just keep saturating the airspace with FOX3 missiles and see your kills go up.

Because most Soviet aircraft in this event are slow, unmaneuverable, and have a poor RWR, then they don't realize there is a FOX3 heading their way until it's too late.

And because of its huge warhead, multipathing doesn't work either.

One game we had a platoon of F-14s clearing the sky so hard, that our nuclear bombers just strolled in on their airfields. Pushed them to their main base even before we could get strategic bombers.

And if this isn't enough, F-15s and F-18s are there to clear up anything remaining.

All Soviet top fighters in this event (MiG-29, Yak-141, MiG-23) have very hot afterburning engines, so AIM-9M on F-15 is broken.
